Anyone else rarely or never answer a ring or knock on their door?
Just been chatting on another (serious) chat site where it was about a 50/50 split on people who always do and people who never do.
Would time of day/ night affect your decision?

I always answer but for some people location would make a big difference.
Answering a late night knock in a rural area is different to an urban knock.
Depending on the area one might be more preferable to there other. |

We have a video doorbell that's motion sensitive, so I know they're there before they ring it.
And a very fucking loud dog that has a sixth sense when the postman or a courier is 50 yards away.
Nobody rings for deliveries anymore. Its just left in the porch and a card put through the door.
Friends and family come in the back (fnar fnar) so the only people who ever really ring the bell are sales people or JW's. Nothing of which I'll generally answer because I get to tell religious bigots to fuck off and off error the sales folk an appointment at specsavers, given there's a big sign on the door saying we're in a 'no sales calls' area due to the local population demographics (there's a lot of vulnerable elderly folk about).

When I had my own home I ignored the door unless I was expecting someone (parcel, family or friends).
I’m the same with my phone.
Since moving in with my mum the door is opened a lot as she has Amazon Prime and QVC habits. |

"If its late they get a cup of cold piss chucked at them
Do you keep that by the door ready for the occasion?"
No, I'm cold and dead inside so it comes out cold anyway |

There is rarely anyone calls to my house but if someone knocks at the door I answer. But the gates into the driveway are usually locked unless I'm expecting someone to call and that's the only access in. Plus the dogs are a pretty good deterrent for cold callers, and the fact I live way out in the country. |

I only answer if I'm expecting guests or a parcel. I'll answer to an unknown knock if there's others in the house with me.
I grew up in a rough area which put me off opening it up without a second thought. And just last year I had a man try to get into my house claiming he knew who I was and demanding to be let in to do some work, and that kind of shook me up to the point we bought a ring doorbell and I don't attempt to open it if I'm alone. |

If I can't figure out who it is, I don't. Like the delivery guys knock a certain way or I'll have heard them knocking next door already.
My friend always taps the window so I know it's her, my son knocks a certain number of times. |

On the very rare occasion that someone knocks, I look out of the window to see who it is, that will influence my decision.
I request all my parcel deliveries to be placed in a drop box in my garden. Rarely have visitors to Soze Manor. So anyone knocking tends to be unsolicited, and I’ll ignore it. |

"Rightly or wrongly I answered the door to a delivery man stark bollock naked this morning. He didn't bat an eyelid."
Why was he naked? What was he delivering? |

Pretty much would always answer, though I live in a decent urban area and as a bloke don’t find later knocks intimidating, I could certainly understand why some women might and his location may also influence answering |

Has to be prepared in advance so it gets to go cold. Or if it's fresh, maybe he adds ice cubes to cool it down. |

Close family always ring ahead. If I am not expecting a delivery and it's not the postman, I don't answer the door. I can see who it is through lounge window. If it's important they will leave a card. |

Here in Cov I always answer.
Back in Glasgow I rarely answered unless I was expecting someone. My family just let themselves in. 95% of the time it was people delivering parcels to a weird neighbour who ran his business from home and was far far too busy to ever come and pick them up.
In the last few years the other 5% it was the police wondering if I’d seen/heard my upstairs neighbour. The vast majority of the time when they knocked he was in, just hiding. Just hassle I could do without.
