Thoughts on reiki

Have you ever had it done and, if so, what did you think? I already do tarot reading in my spare time and have been looking into training in reiki as well. Just curious about other people's experiences with it. |

I’ve never had it done on me, but in the past some years ago I did have a friend come and do reiki on my cat that had digestive problems, she was often in pain. I wanted to see if reiki would help her.
Friend came round and sat opposite each other so I could tell her about the cat. I started feeling really hot and ill eventually I asked her to move away from me as I felt the energy comping off her. The minute she did I felt better.
When she started on the cat, she got up and went to lie on my bed curled up as she did when she was in pain, we followed her through and she allowed my friend to offer her the energy, 15 mins later she was relaxed and beginning to stretch out something she hadn’t done for a while. She seemed happier after that.
I definitely think there’s something in it |

"What exactly is reiki?"
It’s where you are healed with the energy and words of another person , it’s comparable to reflexology but without touch. You don’t have to understand or believe In the energy to practice it , but you need to be empathic and understand healing , it’s like mindfulness is to Buddhism. it is prescribed by NHS and Bupa based on the evidence. My view it it works a bit like talking based therapy works |

Ok thank you.
I believe that our personal energy is quite powerful.
I know acupuncture is used by the NHS as I've been treated with it. If the NHS has researched and are happy to use reiki there must be some evidence to support it. |

Not sure why, but I thought it was when you had a tiny rake for a little pot of sand. |

There is no evidence.
It cures nothing(Association of reiki practitioners) .. Studies show that those claiming to "feel others energy" simply can't. They did no better than guessing a coin toss.
It is not "prescribed" by the NHS... "NHS England spokesperson said: 'There is no scientific evidence to support the use of reiki as an effective clinical treatment on the NHS."

"For a living? Great, sell nonsense to people thaf can’t afford it and sleep well at night
As a practise? Placebo does work so crack on
Maybe it could fix your grumpiness ? "
Is having a fair opinion on something grumpy?
Or is it because that opinion didn’t line up with yours?
I’ve always going to be strongly against this type of stuff because it’s benefits by taking money out of (usually the poorest) peoples hands for nothing. It’s fraud in my books |

I've had Reiki done loads of times and always felt lighter and clearer headed after wards. I'm manic depressive so while it obviously doesn't get rid of my depression it defo helps me clear my head of certain thoughts. |

I’m a Reiki practitioner and also read tarot amongst other things.
It has been proven to be beneficial to many people and also animals, however if you are going to do it as a business I would train in other holistic therapies as well and also get an anatomy and physiology qualification. |

Yeah I didnt think it was. They took homeopathy off the nhs when clinical trials found it no more effective than the placebo effect |

So why did I feel ill when my friend who was charged with energy sat next to me? When I’ve been near her on other days when she’s not in reiki mode it hasn’t affected me.
It doesn’t “cure” as such but it does help the body through touch less energy which helps the meridian line to heal the body itself.
EFT does the same
As does Indian Head massages, they can and do relieve you of cluster or migraine headaches.

I’m not a believer or a crank of any sorts
A family (a crank!)friend offered me free session after I twisted my plated ankle few years back
Was in a lot of pain couldn’t put any weight on it at all
She came round i layed on the couch her hands hovered above me for half hour
Not once did she touch me yet I could feel the heat coming from her hands like they were virtually on me
Once she finished I got off the couch and walked perfectly to the kitchen and made a cuppa tea felt perfect no pain at all
Next day was in agony went to a&e had X-ray the plate had split my cuboid in my ankle had to go back in a cast for 3 weeks
Is there something in it ?
I really don’t know!
That is my experience of it |

So you don’t believe in it, yet it worked for you, even if the effects only lasted a few hours….I’d call that a success |

"It works for some people , it’s actually scientific which is why you can get it on the NHS. But how does believing in tarot cards mean you can do it , it’s completely different to superstition "
I can't find anything that makes it look like there is any science behind it. I mean, come on. It's transferring "universal energy" through the palms of the practitioner to the patient. It all sounds very woo woo to me. |

If you hold your hands over a part of someone's body they will feel heat, try it. If you concentrate hard on someone you will feel an energy from them. I'm not convinced it can heal you or relieve pain. The fact that someone acknowledges your pain and encourages you to sit quietly and relax might be a factor |

I just think it’s sad that there’s people out there in pain or injured, and they’ve been roped into this by someone, putting their hard earned money in the hands of a scam artist who they hope will take their pain away
And usually, these people are the poorest people
I’m really not down for it. We didn’t spend 100s of years developing medicine so that someone that did an online course can move their hands around you and take your cash |

Well it’s good enough for the NHS and Bupa to fund.
The science is based on empirical evidence not theoretical . It might sound woo woo but as I said not understanding how something works doesn’t invalidate the results. You do know the scientific method includes action research and empirical evidence based proofs ? Science isn’t limited to theory’s and laws |

"I've done s brief search and can't find anything to suggest that Bupa will fund reiki treatment or that the NHS will recommend or provide it"
You have to know how to ask , they fund most alternative and complimentary. Google isn’t really your friend , look at Bupa Global Gold, limits and conditions for alternative therapy |

The NHS says there's no evidence and doesn't fund it.

An alternative way of looking at this story is the placebo effect lasted long enough for him to ignore the useful pain signals that our bodies use to prevent us doing damage to ourselves with the result that he did serious damage and set back the healing process by 3 weeks.

Do your own research if you’re that interested in it. Learn how healthcare works and how to use private and state healthcare effectively. There’s no substitute I can offer for engaging your own brain |

About 12 years ago, I had problems with my right shoulder and I could not raise my right arm as it was too painful to do so and I could only just manage to raise my hand to my mouth.
One night at a works leaving do, a girl who I knew and was also a friend of a colleague that I work with, noticed that I was raising my pint glass almost to my mouth but I had to bob my head down to drink from it and asked me if I had a problem, and told her about my shoulder.
She told me that she practices Reiki and sat on the arm of the chair I was sat on and felt around my shoulder and told me that the problem was lower down in my shoulder blade. She then told me that she would place her hands over the troubled area and I would feel a lot of heat, which I did. Unfortunatly we did not have much time and she said she would have another go the next time she saw me.
The next day, my shoulder felt a lot better and sure enough a couple of weeks later I was at work and she came in to see me in passing with her friend after a night out. Once again, she placed her hands over the troubled area and held them there for a couple of minutes and I felt an intense heat that seemed to burn right through me.
For over a week, that area remained hot and eventually subsided. To this day, my shoulder has been perfect and never had any form of pain or disabilty in it. |
