Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

The celebrity line up has been revealed. The usual mix of soap stars, music people, an older 'icon' figure (Matt Goss, this year), presenters and sports people.

This year they are ringing the changes a bit with a wildlife photographer. I can't remember any behind the camera people being on before.

Four new professionals too.

I am glad we get to keep Giovanni for another year.

I'm getting excited.

I do love strictly

I wish they would introduce a non celebrity into the mix, I think that would be fun.

"I do love strictly

I think the photographer fits that brief, to some extent.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers the original version with Karen Hardy teaching ordinary people? It was short. Then a few years later the celebrity version appeared. I am a little sceptical about everything morphinng into a celebrity-led show (Gogglebox etc.).

Many of us don't know half the celebrities at the start. There's always at least one hack who writes that the show is going downhill as theey don't know any of the celebrities and then we get to know them and root for them.

The latest announcement is they are going to dance to BBC theme tunes to mark the 100th anniversary.

I'm wondering what dances will be assigned to Dr Who and Eastenders?

Which tunes? What dances?

I haven't looked because they are so predictable.

Adapting for Ellie Simmonds will be visually different. Just as it was for the Jeremy Vine being tall.

Will and Hamza scoring the same won't protect Hamza. He'll lose out on the public vote, more's the pity. I'm glad his parents took the time off to see him dance.

Ellie Taylor looked and moved beautifully.

Yes, I think so too, I don't think it was his time to go..

Yes and especially when Ritchie is such a super fan. Dunno... Being Black and Gay, not appealing to the two separate demographics I suppose..."

Oh please … on this is soooo easy to point on this direction… so why did Johannes do so well last year then?? .. is he not black and gay, an easy assumption to hang your hat on!!

I don’t believe either Fleur of Richie should have been in the bottom 2 … the judges scores on Saturday were accurate.. but what is missing is ‘the celeb factor’ which will carry people through..

Matt Goss will have an Army of Brossettes voting for him, Tony Adams will have an Army of Arsenal fans voting for him - plus the comedy factor! … whereas unless you listen to Radio 2 nobody really knows about Richie Anderson.

I think the furry costumes didn't help Richie.

I wondered if Fleur picked up some of the Black Little Mermaid ire, along with the song choice?

Johannes is the professional dancer, Ritchie is the celeb... Johannes did so well last year on the strength of John Waite, who probably got a lot of gay (white) votes and Waitrose cooks.

Before transition I lived in the gay (mostly white) community and racism is quite common. I know my and many ethnic communities are very anti-gay. So when it comes to votes, its down to the small middle venn overlap. That's my point.

All change though next week. Got the feeling a lot have had the right dances/music tonight.

The likes of Jambo have got the tough dances out of the way this week.

Who actually cares enough about a dance competition to ask the BBC to share public votes?! Bizarre.

Tho that said, Karen is sooooo gawjuz I think I would fall head over heels and turn lesbian if I danced with her six days a week...

I was surprised we had two good weeks in a row. There's usually a little slump after they all do well.

I'm also really pleased to see social media getting behind Hamza with the Metro reporting that he proves you don't need to be a big name to succeed on Strictly.

Agree! I think Helen is one of these people who are physically capable and confident, be it tight-rope walking, kayaking, rock-climbing, etc. which she had done well for Blue Peter.

Her dancing in the first few weeks was equally competent but the last couple of weeks, she's really discovered she can dance, not just physically but in her soul.
