Shannon Matthews -The Musical

This is an actual "comedy" show, a musical specifically, at The Edinburgh Festival this year.

Poor taste? Or should we be allowed to poke humour at anything.

I'm generally quite liberal and think it's a slippery slope once you start to censor and tell people what they can and can't laugh at.

But this feels so wrong because child abduction is the subject.

Thoughts?

"Too soon."

Yeah.

I think she must be a young woman now but can you imagine the wee soul hearing about this and how she must feel.

What next? Myra Hindley the musical? No. Some things are beyond humour

somewhere

She will be early 20’s now and I’m sure what she went through at the time and the issues it probably left her with, aren’t funny to her. She was a child.

It’s not funny imo.

I would imagine they would need her permission for this but if not then I feel it's in bad taste.

Sold out at The Fringe apparently so some people think differently.

I understand the need to get seen at the Edinburgh festival, so a controversial title will get that much needed publicity. But it’s time to leave those involved in peace. The victim will be a young woman and the family members have paid for their crimes.

Everyone involved should be given a chance to move on and hopefully learn from this terrible experience.

Well she’s obviously a talented singer so I’d say let her get on with her career and perform if she wants to…

I’m guessing she’s said she’s fine with it if they’re using her name. I could be wrong but if that is the case then she must have a great sense of humour.

Not all that North of North London

In fairness I think her mother is the reason she's got a lifetime of psychological issues, not this musical.

There are plenty of films and plays and TV shows based around crimes where those involved would probably rather they did not happen but they go ahead.

There was a TV Dramatisation around Shannon Matthews 5 years ago, I'm not sure why that was okay and this isnt

True. Pain and Gain being one of them. They made a comedy out of brutal murders.

Done by a Basildon “musician” called K*nt & the Gang.

He used to be quite funny, but over the last 2 years he’s gotten desperate for attention & thrives on shock humour

I think he's always thrived on shock value, he's depressingly uninspiring

You’re right there, perhaps he should call it time and move on.

Living here during the festival is a pain. Hundreds of wannabe stars peddling nonsense on the street. If you're reliant on tourism income, it's a boon. For locals, it's just irritating

Nobody is forced to go to the show, so if you find it distasteful, just don't go.

Just stop censoring things on behalf of other people's sensibilities.

Comedy is tragedy plus time they say, but I think this is wrong and the fact its sold out just tells you how bad the human race has gotten.

Just heard the news about Salman Rushdie.

Possibly throws this into a different light.

Freedom of speech is something that should be cherished. Even if it is deemed offensive by some.
