Tom is not the most well travelled but is worried about taking his mobile phone to Rome which is in Italy and racking up a huge bill. He has heard a lot about these Roman charges. Apparently they charge English tourists a fortune to use their mobile masts. Any ideas please ? |

I once received some of those "Roman" charges whilst in the US, how's that work. It wasn't all over the news unfortunately so came as a right shock..... |

When Roming around Roam be mindful to do as the Roamans do. They turn off their Roming options on their cellular devices. Thus negating to need to worry about Rome-ing charges whilst roaming around Rome. |

"Use a carrier pigeon, or send a postcard
My friend went to send me a post card from
Portugal and couldn't get one.
I can confirm that Spain and the Netherlands have postcards "
Then where was mine? |

We didn't post any, though I did bring back ones with nice pictures on for my Dad. Sorry, I'll send one from Tenerife at Christmas |

You could just take me to Tenerife and forget the post card |

Best thing to do is attack the phone with a hammer immediately before it can even think about incurring any Roman charges.
Or you might study the Caledonians as they seemed to do a reasonable job of fending off the Romans. |

"This would never happen if the lefties had their way."
I think if the lefties had their way the UK would still be in the EU and there would have been no change to the freedom from roaming charges.
What do you think would happen to roaming charges and £10 fees if the lefties had their way? Genuine question.

Before brexit there was no charges for EU roaming. So without the referendum roaming would still be free. |

"These buggers are using the English as cash cows "
If you mean U.K. phone companies are “these buggers” and by English you mistakenly forgot about Wales and Scotland (not sure about NI and if it affects them too)…. Then yes.
But at least you got Freedumb and Sovrintee innit…. |

Isn’t this what you voted for Tom?
Tom's voting is between him and the ballot box "
I don’t think it take a genius to work out which way Tom votes. |

I bought a weeks roaming pack in the crossover time in June as our flight was cancelled and needed to make calls to the UK etc. It only cost me £5 but my provider refunded it saying they hadn’t sorted their charges out properly when I purchased it. |

"O2 don't apply roaming charges.
Outside of Europe they do. £6 a day fit some other countries and from what I can see no option for many others "
I mentioned O2 as well. I think roaming charges have always been imposed outside the EU, it's just that when we were part of the European project, we benefited from no roaming charges within the EU area. Anyway, O2 don't charge extra within EU countries for sure, we've used our phones in Spain and the Netherlands recently with no extra charges. |

No "Roman" charges if you holiday in Skegness, or anywhere else in the UK (for as long as they are part of the UK)
Foreign holidays probably make you a traitor in their eyes...
"spend in Skegness" Stick of Rock in Blackpool, just like the good ol'days... |

You could use an internet cafe Tom - just avoid any where Liam Neeson is next to you As there’s bound to be trouble!! Contact your mobile provider for a euro pass which can be as cheap as £2/day which is British money!! I can’t be certain but I think thats about 350 euros (which is foreign money) If roaming isn’t included in your providers tariff.
Can’t wait to hear how you get on |

It's the UK companies who are charging Tom. The arrangements between networks are their business.
Law used to prevent them charging but it got binned |
