I know this might fall on fallow ground, but today I had the track ‘(I wanna give you) Devotion’ was my ear worm today.
So listened to it in the car, reminded me of being a teenager in the early 90s going to clubs and raves
Anyway I know just mentioning ‘raves’ will trigger Maggie’s children into a frothy mouthed rage soo I’ll just ask;
Any old ravers and any tracks that take you back? |

But big on the club scene, I danced my hotpant clad ass off at slinky every weekend for 4 years

Good choice !!!
Never made it to Slinky, I was at Orbit every weekend, occasionally Back to Basics, Bowlers and Gatecrasher. |

I remember listening to pirate radio to get the secret location of a service station, arriving , dozens of cars not knowing where we were going , following in convoy up into the hills to a lovely big mansion that some rich people had left for the weekend…. Every weekend was a different adventure |

90s raver here. Was big into drum and bass, but loved what was called old skool back then and techno. Travelling down south from Manchester, dropping pills when we reached the RAC Centre (we considered that the halfway point to our destination). Not glorifying it, we were young and stupid, but how none of us had a serious car accident is beyond me.
As I reached my 20s, and I couldn't be arsed travelling here, there and everywhere , I was clubbing in Manchester every weekend. With the raving from the mid 90s to clubbing for the best part of 10 years in the noughties, it certainly took it's toll mentally. What a time to be alive though. Great times and great memories from what I can actually remember.
Not a smart phone in sight. No one giving two fucks, because if you fucked up, it was all forgotten about a week later. Now all your mistakes are captured forever and trust me, there were many a messy night, which probably wouldn't have happened the way it did if it was all being filmed haha |

Yeeeeessss! And still am, from early Prodigy and KLF, messiah, altern8 etc through happy hardcore, hardcore, trance, uk hard house, hardstyle and now very much into hard trance….Vini Vici, blastoyz, grotesque etc etc. Even used to dabble on the 1210’s myself and was an avid rave/festival goer until the kids |

We went to Cream Ibiza a couple of weekends ago and they dropped a few old tunes. K-Klass were playing a DJ set and then she sang Rhythm is a Mystery…it was fantastic!
Going to Ministry of Sound weekend at Butlins and that is a fantastic weekend…

I went to a lot of races and also worked at a lot too.
We used to do our soundcheck to Dominator by Human Resource. So loud your clothes would ripple but a tiny bit quieter once everyone was in to save the bleeding eardrums.
I was at The Eclipse , Dreamscape, Perception and the Orange club in Holloway |

Raindance
Fantazia
Elevation
Dreamscape
Perception
Starlight
World dance
Vision
To name a few!
And those that are old enough remember Sunrise and Biology???
In my humble opinion best rave ever held Fantazia summertime may 92. It went off!!!
Then onto the beach straight after to do it all again.
If you have YouTube, check out Dj Ss and dj Phantasy set's of that night.
Rhubarb and custard's were the order of the night if i remember then topping up with a micro dot. Crazy shit!
Great times but like many, certainly suffering the affect's of abusing mind and body from the late 80's to mid 90's.
Hardcore you know the score!

"Anyone go to the illegal raves ?
Some of the best times ever .
Loads and loads.
Aren’t they all ? Isn’t that the idea…."
Well no they weren’t because after the Thatcher government brought in the criminal justice bill making it an offence for more than 12 people to meet in an open area with the intention of listening to amplified music the rave scene went into the club and super club era . Basically she didn’t like people enjoying themselves in an environment that the government couldn’t control especially after the Castle Morton rave which was huge |

Nope, although a friend attends squat raves and recommended them to me a few years ago when I still had the appetite to rave. They look really sketchy and don't seem to share the same vibe as the proper original raves which were in existence during my childhood. Granted I have never been to either and am judging both based off YouTube footage only. |

Yes the Castlemorton festival did definitely change the laws and the rave scene, Maggie and Co tried to kill the illegal rave's and to a degree succeeded.
I guess our Maggie knew best! |

Revolution is an absolute banger. I love the stuff he did with Nick Sentience too, noise, easy on the cut, clattered etc. Check out the nukleuz back catalogues if you haven’t already |

Well she definitely fucked it up for a lot of us, re the rave scene but let's be honest we carried on anyway.
Yes mainly through organised raves but private parties so to speak we're still going on.
Pirate radio and word of mouth kept thing's alive. |

This is all true, but illegal raves still happen to this day. I went to my last illegal rave around 2005/6 in a crumbling derelict warehouse in Salford. Now that was an interesting night to say the least |

Alistair Whitehead was my neighbour for a few years . Really nice guy . I never met Jeremy Healy but he was part of that Fantasia crew too . Some good cd collections from that lot , club and house classics. A few years after the original hardcore of the late 80’s early 90’s though. |

Yeah just as I went into high school rave was becoming big, old house Whitehead, Healy etc more mainstream throughout later school years and early teens
Went to see Healy play a set last year, still awesome.
What an era for music, and this was around Brit pop exploding nationally |

This man knows the score. Top buzz were top of the tops, different gravy back a day for a Quest regular.
Loved me Micky Finn, Grooverider and of course the legendary Carl Cox, Mc Bassman had me in fits with his outragerous lyrics. Totally awesome days that I'll never forget op. |
