So iv just found out if you are a single person household and can't have a water meter fitted you can apply for a discount on your water rate plus if your income is under 16,000 per year you can ask to go on the low earner rate. Also many broadband companies have a low earners rate too. Iv just heard this on the radio and had no idea because these companies don't shout about it but may help some of you. Anyone else got any things like this that are worth looking in to? |

"I would advise looking at Martin Lewis's website, alot of useful and practical advice on there. MrsH"
Definitely worth a look. I discovered I could claim money bk for homeworking over the last couple of years.

"If you half fill your fuel tank up, it'll cost you less.
That’s a bit like , if things don’t change they’ll stay the same "
It’s because your car isn’t as heavy as it is with a full tank, meaning it needs to use less fuel to move. As the car gets lighter, you use less fuel. So always going to half full is cheaper on the long run…. Granted by pennies, but still. |

Uncanny, I was going to post the same without even seeing your reply. |

Always shop around for insurance and call your current provider at renewal time armed with a cheaper quote. Ask for a loyalty discount. This goes for any insurance at all.
If you have credit card debt and have never defaulted call the company speak to the loyalty team and ask them if it's possible to reduce your interest rate. Do this every six months.

Grab some empty ice cream tubs, go in the garden and fill them with the heat. Then in November you can open them and let the heat out. Better yet you could freeze it, then just defrost the heat as and when you need it. |

Or move it to an interest free card, there’s some that are 24 months interest free or even longer |

I hate to to be doom n gloom, but let’s face it. No amount of money saving is gonna protect us from the hikes coming. All we can do is our very best, and hope for better times sooner rather than later. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
"Don’t get married just enjoy others wives
It's easier to get by when two live together.
I pay everything on one income. "
Same here. It's not that much more expensive to live when there are two people in a home, but two incomes make a massive difference. |

Exactly. Choosing between heat or eat will be considered luxurious. |

Don't blame the council. Bands are set by the Valuation Office - it's part of the government |

Cheaper items are on the bottom shelf in the supermarket.
Discounting in supermarkets generally start late afternoon, around 5-6pm as you still need the customers to get rid of anything going out of date.
Smaller supermarket will have more discounted goods than the larger ones. Especially if there’s a bigger store close by, including rivals.
I used to work in a Supermarket, reason for all above. Admittedly it’s down to the store management to decide how and when they discount items.
Check the online benefit calculator to see if you’re entitled to any benefits. |

"Only have the hot water temperature at enough to touch so you have no need to use cold water as a mix it's sensible and saves money and water which is important "
Going to check my boiler. Good tip.
Got the heating temperature turned down on the boiler already. No need for it to be pumping water as hot as the sun round the system. |

Isn't there a certain temperature that it's supposed to be at to prevent some kinds of bacteria? |

I found a couple of additional benefits I was entitled to (inc money off my water bill) on entitledto.co.uk
I'm currently looking at changing my current account - first direct offer £150 cash back. Money Saving Expert always has up to date info on the best options for switching accounts. A lot of people think it's not worth the hassle but it's now very simple and the banks will take care of all the Direct Debit changeovers etc.

Go to training school for beauty stuff. Nails, hair.
Watch YouTube videos on how to apply colour and buy the stuff online.
I buy my colours on ebay as salon services have went through the prices over lockdown with people buying colours online.
Try Groupon, wonder etc for meals trips etc.

Légionnaires disease was the one I was thinking of. 60°c is ideal apparently |

I used to do it on my credit card when I had quite a large balance after a period of financial difficulty. They reduced my interest rate every six months for a while. It really helped me pay it off. I already had a zero percent one up to the max and wasn't eligible for another.
The insurance one I just do automatically now. Frequently they give me a price that's less than the previous year |

Yes definitely essential the benefits, lots of people don't claim things they are entitled to. |

Also we recently contacted sky on my dad's behalf. I explained his situation to the lady and she really bent over backwards to reduce his bill. It was less than half by the time we finished the call. If you have elderly relatives it might be worth discussing what they actually need from their broadband and TV as opposed to what they have |

Yes there is something called the low earners rate, apparently this is something most companies provide but they don't advertise it. |

No. It's good to be able to say you do it, not so good if too many people know .
Dad didn't qualify for that but the lady searched for the best and cheapest deal for his needs |

Main concern is if the shower hasn't been used for several weeks. Allowing for the bacteria to grow in the stagnant ambient temperature water. Flush the shower if you've been on your holidays and you should be ok. |

"Buy an electric blanket, cheap to sit on that, than putting the heating on in the coming winter months " I wouldn’t sit on an electric blanket. Will cause the wires to break and short etc. fire hazard. They are designed to lay flat on a bed , and used to preheat. Always switch off before you get into bed. Safety First

If you had read it properly you would understand it isn't incorrect. It says if you are a single person and can't have a metre as not all properties are suitable. |

They are awesome, have one to sit on the sofa in winter. Saves me putting the heating on. Cover with an extra normal blanket to trap the heat in. |

The bacteria that cause Legionnaires survive below 45°C. Water must be stored at 60°C and distributed at a temperature above 50°C. So, people should not change the temperature on their combi boiler or water tanks to be lower than these temperatures. |

Drive economically. Less accelerator, less braking equals less petrol used.
I did a 400 mile drive a few weeks back. About 240 on dual carriageway/Motorway and the rest on A roads or worse.
I didn’t rush, stayed below 70mph throughout but averaged 60.
63.1mpg from a fairly normal mid-sized car. My long term average is 45.5mpg. So that journey was significantly cheaper. |

"Delete all your ubereats/deliveroo type apps. Costs people a bloody fortune."
Sometimes it's actually cheaper to order groceries with the discounts they give you. It worked out cheaper for me to use Uber eats to order some stuff from Sainsbury's rather than walking the 2 minutes to the shop, 40% off. |

Cashback apps are really good! Top cashback and airtime rewards are 2 of the ones I use.
Also receipt scanning to earn points/vouchers.
See if there's a community larder near by.
Sign up for supermarket loyalty cards, check your Tesco club points... My parents had 32 quids worth on theirs! So we bought rail cards, more money saving... |

It does agreed. The main cause of legionnaire's is stagnant showers that are at ambient temperature, sitting in the shower head and hose. Which is why it has a higher prevalence in August. Even if your boiler/tanks are kept above those temps. It's always a good idea to flush showers through if you've been away on holidays, especially in heatwaves like we have now. |
