Have you watched?

I'm not sure I remember seeing it on the news but half the time I can't remember my own name these days.

Trying to put myself in that situation, and think how I'd behave.

I'd have probably just left in all honesty, rather than stay there and suffer.

I was disgusted at the behaviour, but at the same time I can understand in a way the rebellion that occurred considering the lack of amenities etc. But then I did a think, and I wondered to myself, would it have changed anything or would they have kicked off anyway?

Two episodes in, really enjoying it. Wow the raw energy - scary. Hard to say why '69 and '99 so different. That said, Altemont was '69 and that didn't end well

We watched it. It would’ve been my idea of hell, especially as I would’ve wanted to experience the hippy-dippy free love days of the original Woodstock.

I get why the crowd kicked off, it was clearly all about profit rather than ‘the experience’ for the attendees. But I was disgusted by their behaviour. I felt sorry for the security and general staff.

The difference between 69 and 99 was back in the 60s the music was generally less aggressive and the drugs of choice were mostly and acid. In the 90s they were all on pills or and they affect people in a different way.

Saying that though, if I was there in my late teens I probably would’ve loved the madness of it all and stuck it out so I didn’t miss out on any of the drama. I’m just more sensible now I’m old.

I forgot certain words would be deleted but I was just saying the types of mood enhancers people take tended to be different in the 90s to the 60s.

It was a disgrace.

"Free" water that could potentially make you incredibly unwell, and that's only if you waited hours to get it, during a heatwave, or paying silly money for a bottle of water.

Toilets that were literally shit cubicles.

They were totally treated like animals.

It really bothered me some of the photos of the women crowd surfing, literally getting groped. That's aside from the stuff that can't be written here.

Belfast

Badly organised with a completely blinkered approach to the attendees who were within their rights to rebel but as they caused a lot of the issues themselves it was a case of pot and kettle.

The egos of some of the performers was also to blame as they just added to the chaos but it was a fuck up from the start.

You can't fill a lineup with the angriest bands in the world at the time and expect peace and love.

We watched it last night, what a shitshow!!!

It was annoying how all the staff giving interviews pointed the finger at each other, 20 years on and still nobody could admit that they'd done anything wrong. The "just a few bad apples" line is no good when you're the ones looking after the orchard.

Cutting corners on amenities, price-gouging, lack of security and medical teams, holding it in a concrete jungle in summer, turning a blind eye to the copious amount of dealers, just basically not giving a shit.

They'd have been better off running it at a loss, giving everyone decent amenities, cheap food and drink, and then the next year charging a bit more for tickets and keeping a better eye on the budget.

There was a lot of spring break/frat boy/girls gone wild/brat rock style behaviour that was glorified at the time, MTV had so much "fly on the wall" content, music videos were showing it, everybody wanted their five minutes of fame and only the extreme behaviour got the airtime. No place for nice guys in that era, only jocks, frat boys, bikini girls, all with cameras shoved in their face, egging them on.

Young people weren't taken seriously, tended to be ridiculed and their views not listened to, and the majority of the bands that were booked were anti-establishment, middle finger to the system messages, that's the way a lot people probably felt in general and all the shortcomings at the event only highlighted how much they were being ripped off.

I know Glastonbury has had it's problems over the years, but they've learned lessons and made improvements and a lot of their profits go to charity, so it goes to show that things can be turned around if you're willing to let go of the ego and admit where you've gone wrong.

Before they put the wall up (which if they hadn't, the festival would have gone) on 2002, it was actually quite scary on the site before then, huge amount of robberies and so many people scaling the fence it was dangerously overcrowded.

I can't imagine the travellers kicking off in 1990 was much fun, my first one was just after that and there was noticeable tension around the travellers.

Bit nothing on the scale of what happened at Woodstock 99.

Worthing

Fascinating watching. I attended the Donington rock festival in 1984 and it was so hot that day, the last thing we wanted to do was jump around! It was packed near the front but we had a decent spot.Never been to one since!
