I feel slightly down tonight after having to detain a girl I went to school with for shoplifting. Not just detain her, but restrain and handcuff while waiting for the police to arrive. She was fine and then suddenly went absolutely mental kicking off. The police arrived and instantly recognised her. I then found out she has not long been released from a psychiatric unit after 2 years.
I just find it sad to see someone I remember as being bright with a good future ahead of them have such a downfall in life. |

That (being at school) must have been 10+ years ago. People change.
Shoplifting, whilst not recommended, isn't the end of the world. I hope she can get it together, perhaps a after a spell of incarceration, and go on to better things. |

How shamefully mean and horrible of you.
The karma police will note your debt and collect at a later, undisclosed date...
It's always a downer when this kinda grief happens - even worse when your in the job and a mate asks if you can do anything to help someone in a custody centre. Harsh |

"detain and handcuff? and ur not police?...and for shoplifting?..."
We're required to be handcuff trained with working night shifts due to the amount of drug addicts and idiots in the area. So if that's what the bosses want |

I felt horrible having to handcuff her but what am I supposed to do when she starts trying to attrack staff members and myself??
I've known her since I was 6 and know her brother to, who I rang to let him know what happened.
It's just not nice to see how nasty life can be to some people. |

maybe its all changed...just see the detainment and handcuffing as a police job(or under a mental health act), sympathize as it was someone u knew/know..been in similar position an wasnt nice..but I was required by law..and certainly was nothing to do with shoplifting. To me its report to the police and let them deal with the crime...nothing else. |

I didn't have a choice, tesco security stopped her for the shoplifting and I was required to assist them. At the end of the day I have a job to do and if someone would have been harmed then I'd have felt worse |

No we don't have to read any rights to them but I agree it is a grey area and maybe we should be given some form of script like the police. |

Hey rusty, dont beat yourself up over this, at the end of the day you were doing your job. You did what you had to do, protect yourelf and others, and the person concerned too from getting hurt. We all have areas of our jobs yhat are not pleasant, but have to be done. You behaved in a professional manner. |

Seems mad as a security guard that you have to/can restrain people .. if it means getting into a situation where you have to do that id be wanting a fucking load of money due to risk of injury lol
Not least the possibilty of an assault charge if youre seen as excessive.
Interesting legalities im sure - and im not taking anything away from your role - just the connotation of where 'agents' doing this may become a more fixed tradition on the high street!! |

Been in the job 11 years!! Been stabbed 4 times, shot in the face with an air rifle once
Yes it's stupid and my family keep telling me to change my profession but I enjoy my job ( maybe a little to much at times ) and I like to think I'm good at what I do |
