You have made a joke about a much loved womans death that you didn't even know about at the time. It may have been bad taste or an inadvised comment, but surely the right thing to do would be to say sorry and leave it there? |

I just read this great anecdote on facebook.
This guy worked at a radio station in Australia. Olivia Newton John's daughter did work experience there and asked someone if her mum was famous in Australia.
He replied that she was more than famous. She was an icon.
I think it really speaks to ONJ's character, that her daughter even had to ask.

To be fair there aren't many celebrities we would agree to be an icon, but ONJ was the star of Grease and we all grew up knowing the story and songs.
She touched almost all of us with her singing if not acting and it is true to say that her words will ring out loud and clear for many years to come.

This made me feel so sad when I heard last night. My mum and I saw Grease at the cinema in 1978 (can you believe they let a 7 year old in to see it). We had the soundtrack on vinyl and I grew up singing all the songs. I sooo wanted to be like Sandy in her tight black trousers and heels lol. So, last night, I played all the songs and had myself a little karaoke session to remember her. RIP Dame Olivia x |

She was the soundtrack to my teenage years, and the very first celeb I got a crush on.
Couldn't believe it when I heard the sad news. Always loved ONJ as a singer, actress and, basically "the girl next door".
May she rest in peace. |

I have it saved & refuse to delete! Plus on DVD somewhere. Such a great film. I wanted to be just like Sandy when I was little. Hopelessly Devoted To You wasn’t in the original cut - they filmed it after.
