Do you like it or hate it? Are you good at it? I am not and have to get professionals in for every little job and we all know how frustrating that can be. I used to do and enjoy painting and decorating but have gone off it now. I am currently hoping to restore - with very little effort - a small hallway table that has lost its lustre and the wood has gone a bit dry but haven't got a clue. I might just get a restore and polish tin and keep my fingers crossed as it's not worth paying a professional to do this one ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"I detest it, I would rather skip/sacrifice other purchases in order to pay for what I need doing, to be done.
I am glad I am not the only one. I do enjoy gardening but that's just about it "
Oh, I do tell one little white lie about detesting it.
I did build a climbing frame/swing/climbing wall, for my small person.
But that’s about it. |

I love it. Mostly. There are times I wish I didn't have to do it for myself every time, but I generally love it and am reasonably good at it.
And anything I can't do, don't know how or am too scared or feeble for... I just wait til someone comes to visit ![](/icons/s/3/lovestruck.gif) |

I’m good at it, and I do mostly enjoy it. But it was my job for a long time, so it is still a chore and hard to get the enthusiasm to start it. Those in the trade will know what I mean. |

Thanks but want a little colour too so went for this restore and polish thing which sounds that it does the same thing as wax but adds a bit of colour too. Time will tell ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

I'm sure after a few coats and some firm rubbing it will look lovely!
I've been pleased at the bits of DIY I have attempted. I'm going to keep going, and challenge myself. |

Love it, self reliance is always to be encouraged.
Even if it takes longer, costs more, ruins everyone's weekend and leaves deep deep emotional scars, it's worth it.
But that's shelves for you, tricky bastards. |

I love a bit of restoring, I've revived some cracking pieces of furniture including a coffee table, bedroom furniture and a 6ft aquarium. I love one-off's, the house is full of them.
Also love a bit of carpentry, me (and Mr Siren) have built a raised decking and currently working on a pinball table.
Wallpaper on the other hand, can fuck off. I'm paying a professional next time!! |

I dont mind it, I'll put my hand to anything but I know my limits.
I do find painting therapeutic (until it's the garden fence or shed that c need doing!), and I've quite enjoyed a bit of tiling in the past.
However my current home seems to fight back whenever I get my drill out, so I thank god for wonderful friends who help me out from time to time when I get defeated. |

Haha. I'm a decorator by trade so I have to love it. Now, if someone could invent some way of slowing down or pausing time out there, that would be more than appreciated as never have enough of it... Let's hear it for the quantum mechanics out there! Lol |

I am sure you are very good at what you do. Unfortunately some don't really have the skills and think anyone can be a painter decorator. I am not ashamed to say that I had to ask someone to leave after just one day as his work was atrocious. Even worse than I would have done. If I am paying a professional, it's only right to expect a professional job |

I'm not a big fan of any plastering, painting or decorating. Other repairs and structural stuff I don't mind.
But luckily in my line of work if I work an extra day I'll normally take home the money I need to pay a tradesperson to do a professional job for a day. So instead of grafting for the day doing an amateur job I hate I can instead go to work and do what I'm actually good. Then afford to pay a professional to do what they're actually good at for the day.

I love DIY! I'm always looking for stuff to fix and often I help my neighbours, too.
Painting is my favourite but I also enjoy woodworking, masonry and gardening.
I usually leave electronics and plumbing to the professionals though!

I like it. I am fairly good at most aspects.
I get a feeling of pride and enjoy not spending money on paying someone to do something I can do.
I am also meticulous and slow.
My wife enjoys the fact that I can do it and do a good job and save us money.
Less keen on the length of time the house is in disarray. |

I'm absolutely shocking at DIY.. When I moved into my first place, I bought a drill, determined to do it all myself.. Well it resulted in just holes everywhere and non suitable for anything, except the odd little spider house.
In the kitchen my talents lie, so that's where you'll find me. |

Pity you are not closer, could do with a good joiner, plenty of jobs need doing. Mind you, a good painter/decorator with much attention to detail will be good too. I have some recommendations from neighbours so will be cracking on soon hopefully ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |
