Black Widow Spider Found in Grantham

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *ssex_tom OP   Man  over a year ago

Chelmsford

A car dealer from a place called Grantham which is on the A1 road bought an imported second hand car and found a weird looking spider in it. He posted a picture on line and experts rushed to the scene because it was one of the most poisonous spiders in the world. The Black Widow Spider. This could have proved fatal if the experts had not reacted so quickly. The spider was a female and is said to be kept in a local zoo. It's all over the news

"As spiders poisonous now? So if I bite a black widow I’ll get sick?"

Tom is no spider expert but he would not reccomend eating one raw. The bulbous area will be full of poison and who knows what affect this would have on the human body. Even if cooked it could be a big risk and probably taste horrible. Tom has not seen these for sale even in the Chinese markets...

The world your looking for is venomous and that’s kept in the mouth in the glands connected the fangs, and as venom has to be injected you can drink a glass of it and be ok your stomach acid will destroy the proteins,

Eastbourne (she/they)

These spiders aren’t aggressive and only bite when they feel threatened. The bites usually aren’t fatal, but they can still cause some serious and uncomfortable symptoms.

(taken from healthline)

The black widow is responsible for more than 2,500 visits to poison control centers every year in the U.S.

Most victims recover without serious complications. Although the bite is thought to be fatal to very small children and the elderly, no deaths have been attributed to bites by widow spiders in the United States.

(taken from encyclopedia Britannica)

I think this is a non-story, but that's just me.

I've genuinely been bitten by a snake and a dog. Didn't die. Didn't even go to hospital for either. My ex got bit by a spider, she had an allergic reaction, and didn't die. Bog standard prescribed antihistamines did the trick. Not yet had the pleasure of being bit by a crocodile, but it's on my bucket list. And none of that, changes the fact that spiders are venomous and not poisonous

Oh and off topic, but one for good measure. Lacerations aren't caused by sharp objects, ie glass, knives etc. Lacerations are blunt trauma. Just thought I'd throw another misconception in

"These spiders aren’t aggressive and only bite when they feel threatened.

For future reference:

You bite it and it kills you = poisonous

It bites you and kills you = venomous

Or you can just get eaten by bears. Stomp a black widow it's done. Maybe I just being ignorant to the deadly creatures that the UK has no experience with. My brain goes it's a spider stomp on it. It's a bear or wolf I need better protection.Black widows in my experience are nothing to get hyped over.

OP panicking like black widows are actively stalking humans to bite them. They don't do that. I be more worried about the bovines.

You have a better chance getting hit by lightning than dying from a spider bite.

You wouldn’t be saying that if you were poisoned by one of these hairy buggers…

I'm not convinced. Acar dealer ? Checking over a car he has for sale? In Grantham ?

Seems very far fetched.
