Do you care less ?

My friend goes on about his credit rating. In the end I ask him to STFU.

People worry about their credit rating.... why ? There is NO ONE on this planet that is not going to take my money, give me a job, shag me or let me breath air because of some kind of fictional fucking figure.

Just another metric they came up with for mortgages and loan's.

It's a bit wank, but it's now part of the game. Short of being a total knob it should take care of itself cause no issues.

Talking about it though, a lot, so much so you have to vent here, he sounds a tad dull love

very true.

I want a ferrari...I can't afford it.

Checks credit rating...Still can't afford it.

I want a ferrari...I can afford it.

Checks credit rating...I can afford it.

It's more pointless than checking into your local hospital on Facebook, to see how many likes you get as an indication of how many people care if you're about to die

I managed to pay it all off and now i don't have a credit card i find i'm much happier. I really couldn't give a fuck, what does it all mean anyway, is it really something to be proud of?

Not according to St. Gran but then neither is all my unbridled wealth.

Some employers require a good credit history, certainly mine does. It’s actually in my contract of employment so if I go bankrupt or on an IVA I have to inform them.

I would only be interested in it if I needed credit of some description.

Most likely when I need a new car if mine is put out of action. However after having it for 11 years I'd probably go buy a cheap run around and do my best not to get credit anyway.

Yes often law and finance as well as some other firms, particularly if you are going to be dealing with money, often do credit checks on potential employees

Matters if you want a mortgage or tenancy , loan or any type of credit agreement - like a mobile phone contract.

If only it was actually based on your finances and include tons of other shit. It's basically an excuse for finance companies to charge you additional interest

The more you learn about it and understand it... its quite horrifically controlled and can dramatically damage your ability to basically access normal financial products.

Its a statical tool that essentially tells businesses who can be manipulated by people like 'aqua' or 'amigo'...

I know what it is. It's artificial. It's a question of the more you know the more you fall foul of it. It's uneccessary

Well you got me started now

actually credit rating is a made up thing, for people who don’t understand finance and are gullible to pay for them , no one actually uses it to make decisions, each lender has their own secret criteria and some use underwriters they don’t use made up scores from the big 3.

The credit rating is a rough indicator that your credit file has issues or not though, but without your full credit file it’s useless to you

Anyone can request thier statutory credit file it used to cost £1 but is now free , the law was changed so you can get a copy every month at no cost

It contains amongst other things;

Electrical register entry - very important.

Address associations with people - somewhat important if they have defaults.

Records of your late payments and defaults on credit agreements only - going back 60 months or in some cases 84 months - can be important if you have too many entries.

Records of credit searches done - can be important if too many exist.

Credit limits of current credit agreements and amount used. Useful to determine affordability

Other things that are not that important

To get loans, credit cards and even a mortgage with lower payback rates a high credit score is essential. My credit score is shite but I actually do want to improve it, I think it is going to play a more important part for everyone's life from now onwards, that being said cash is always king.

They don’t need to ask it’s in the small print on all the applications that no one reads.

But more importantly the public record doesn’t even need your permission

It is important in some instances and some mortgage and money lenders do use alongside side other tools such as affordability. Some people may not have a high score paradoxically because they have not used credit cards loans etc at all and for other reasons that may have nothing to do with their financial situation. Always good to know what it is ( can be free) and what you can do to improve if it ever is needed for something. There are ways you can improve it and can find these with minimum effort if it happens to be important to you for whatever reason

Chams or Socials

When I met T he had virtually no credit score - no credit cards or finance. Also self-employed.

It proves tricky when re-mortgaging so when things needed replacing in the house he did it on finance but always paid it off before any interest was due.

I’m not allowed a CCJ, bankruptcy, IVA, DRO etc.. as I would most likely lose my job

Dont worry about my credit rating it is very very good but when we returned to the UK back in 2000 I knew the previous tenants of our house were heavily in debt so after six months got a credit check done and had a couple of debits removed that were still linked to the property and were not ours.

It was worth doing because it would have caused us problems when we went to get a mortgage a few years later.

"How do you know what your credit rating is??

I use Clearscore, it's free to use

I don't really pay much attention to my credit score, I don't use credit as such but I pay my mobile phone bill on time and my bank account is kept in the black.

My youngest has a good job but a shit credit score due to him never having credit so I got him to take out a low interest credit card, use it throughout the month for little things then pay it all off at the end of the months to build it up as I know when he will be applying for a mortgage before long

I had to take out a credit card before applying for my mortgage a few years ago.
