Would you £1000 for a steak

Jump to: Newest in thread

Ok money no object, would you goto one of these posh restaurants that gold plate a steak and then charge you around £1000 for it?

Even if £1000 was pocket change for me I couldn’t justify paying that much for a steak.

How about you?

If you are vegetarian/vegan imagine it was a fake piece of meat.

The thread title should have said :

Would you pay £1000 for a steak?

Not a chance. I couldn’t afford it but even if I could, that money could make a massive difference to someone else’s life and I could probably get a steak just as good for £50.

In my current state of mind and situation the answer is hell no.

But if I had £1000 spare and wouldn’t miss it I wouldn’t be me, money changes people. So right now no, but I can’t say if things change I wouldn’t.

Absolutely not. I couldn't justify that for one meal when that £1,000 could feed families with children

No, doubt it's going to taste much better than one for a fraction of that price.

Not for bog standard steak but if it was one of those Japanese steaks with the marbling of the fat through the meat, then Hell Yes as it would be a once in a lifetime thing.

Incidentally it’s Wagyu (Japanese steak) and I’ve already tasted it in a burger so hell yes please as a steak

I don't think I would, having said that it's hard to tell because if I had millions in the bank then I'm probably not going to even care what it costs as money wouldn't be a worry.

I’ve had Wagyu in a burger as well as in a hotdog and still couldn’t justify the grand. Those cows are massaged by hand though. Crazy.

No. I detest over priced stuff. I don't mind paying for quality and with sporting equipment reluctantly accept that often comes with a hefty price tag for the brand but paying that for tomorrow's poo is the something only a fool would do.

Defo yes…

Happened to me once about 15 years ago, sales director walked into the sales office d*unk (I had just wrapped a deal - but kept it quiet) and nailed £3000 to a desk. Said; anyone that sells “anything” over £10k gets the money and a night out of your choice (I.e the winner). We flew to Las Vegas and had Kobe beef ??. If you like a steak that you would never be able to buy or afford, then research and go to the best at that time… that what I did!

I like a bit of steak…!

I couldn’t justify the price. The best steak I’ve had in the UK was £30 and the best abroad was €25. They were both amazing and I don’t see how anything could be £970/€975 better than that.

Everything is relative. I don't like spending money on alcohol which other people don't think twice about. If money really was no object, you would soon get into the mindset of not thinking twice about dropping 1k on the best meat you have ever tasted.

No, there are some very nice restaurants that do the same type of thing for a fraction of the price. The ones that charge that much are usually the type where it's all for show and Instagram and I detest that kind of thing. The most I've paid for a steak was about £130 in Marbella and it was very, very nice. I could actually fly there for the weekend and have that again for less.

I’m guessing the restaurant the OP is talking about is that Salt Bae bloke who sprinkles the salt in a weird way. I read an article about a restaurant that copied the entire menu and everything was about a 5th of the price.

I'd happily pay £1000 for a vegan to eat a steak.

I personally would say there are limits to what I think it's worth paying for a good meal. I've had some very nice meals in restaurants but they've never been crazy expensive, but then I appreciate that this is a relative term. I could never fathom why some people would be prepared to pay in excess of £1,000 for a bottle of wine that they're going to piss out. I can't imagine getting £1000 worth of enjoyment out of drinking a bottle of wine. Same for a meal. I think that's probably the criterion I generally use here.

We ate in Gallagher's in NY in 09 on our 25th anniversary trip, that was about 150 dollars which wasn't small change but it was well worth it..

Can't imagine any meal being worth £1000..

The way i look at it is i never have more than a couple hundred quid in my bank account at the moment but would pay £35 for a steak meal.

So if many was no object and i had billions in the bank £1000 on a steak is nothing.

Is it tho ..its the same meat probably cooked the same way its more likely the mark up on price is down to who cooked it and where its served ie top end resturaunt ...for me if money was no object i probably would as i would like to dine in these type of places at least once
