Hi ladies... I'm shamelessly stealing Swing's thread and asking for your beauty +skincare regimes, hair tips and latest fashion finds
Tell me what you are loving, what are you trying to resist.. What do you want to try.. What have you got your eye on?!
I'm loving my hair at the moment... It is almost touching my cleavage and is a delicious aubergine colour... It currently looks amazing in a pony tail swishing around or with beach waves (I've been plaiting it when damp) |

I need some makeup advice please!!
In my 20s/30s i used to wear tinted moisturiser and then for some reason i stopped. Now I'm in my 50s my skin is a bit red + blotchy and of course its a bit sun damaged from all the years
I want to even it out a little for daytime /evening 'occasions'. Not necessarily every day as i work from home most of the time
I'm after something light and matt that i can't tell I'm wearing that is super easy to apply / remove
so I'm not asking for much haga
I wear Neals Yard Jasmine or Frankincense face cream daily |

I'd recommend the Body Shop foundations. They do quite a few.
If you're close to a shop, I'd go see them and get some advice and try a few.
Good luck OP. |

Plaited ponytails are my secret weakness so yes that works.
For this man - I've grown a full beard, tapered sides, out at chin to promote the jawline.
Trying to look more attractive is new to me honestly, but I've cut sugar out of my diet (a pretty strict =10g sugar per 100g of food rule), so I went from borderline obese to a normal BMI in the last two years. I recently gained some weight - it is likely that I use too much whipped cream and mayo in my diet but I do need to make another adjustment to keep trim - still within normal BMI but I'm practicing strength exercises so I want to look modestly more defined/fit.
I also shifted from glasses to contact lens. It is curious how men are less friendly but women really like it, I think it depends on taste, I use both but usually for dates w/o.
Also started using solid cologne, generally taking better care of myself since I started dating a year ago.
There is a special girl, a neighbour I sort of got feelings for, she is responsible for most of these changes, she doesn't know though.

The urban decay naked skin foundation is nice, light coverage. The il makiage one I can barely tell I'm wearing when I first put it on but I'm still trying to figure out if the right primer or something will give it better staying power or I just have to admit defeat that its not very well lasting. |

Too neturize the red use green primer or similar.
I've used Estee lauder foundation for yrs, it's the only one that looks good on me, over a primer.
I use cerave range also, really has improved the texture of my skin on my face.

I had this problem my usual foundation and concealer was no longer working for me so I went to Boots and had a free make up consultation took about 15 minutes, found the best concealer and foundation for my skin tone and I'm really happy with it. |

Is it a cream or powder type?? How long would you say you are finding it lasts? Do you think a primer would make it heavier to wear? |

They're both liquid foundations. It's hard to say really, I just know that by the time I finish work it has worn off in places or become more visible. My experience is the opposite, the right primers tend to make foundation less cakey looking for me. |

The recommendation I find is to powder over it because wear will happen, but I don't know how to make that not heavy. I only have experience of one powder, and it definitely works its best when it melds with my natural oil. I don't know your skin type, more going on the basic assumption that people tend to get drier as they get older (I'm finding that's true) |

I use their transparent powder on my t zone but it's still mostly my nose and cheeks I have issues. Urban decay lasts much better for me but the palest shades are unfortunately a little dark for me where as the Il Makiage one is the best colour match I've found, I'm just unfortunately not getting on with the formula. |

I use Bare Minerals complexion rescue tinted moisturiser...it's so moisturising but light to wear, gives decent coverage, but you can put two layers on if you want more coverage and it still feels light.
I set it with Laura Mercier translucent powder and it's so light. |

My near universal experience is that if you go to X counter they'll only recommend you X brand.
Some shops - I'm thinking Selfridges - have a central cosmetics service that is apparently brand neutral, but I've not used it. |

Always use heat protection spray even if just plaiting when damp.
Semi chem and poundland do a brilliant argan oil one at a pound.
The do a brilliant leave in hemp mask for £1 from xhc.
I swear by it as it's the same as a bedhead one I used years ago for treatments when doing hairdressing and I was discontinued.
Revolution bond repair shampoo and conditioners are a replica of olaplex.
Try bb creams for a light foundation alot of the cheaper brands do these at a fraction of the cost elf, revolution and they are spf too.

I stopped wearing foundation a few years ago but thankfully my skin is pretty good.
I exfoliate like my life depends on it, always wear retinol before bed and always wear spf as well
When I wear make up I usually just use a but of concealer around my eyes and then the Indeed Nano Blur face cream but the yellow tone one, which is opaque but gives me a nice glow.

Tbh I just walked in went to the makeup section and asked a woman working there if I could get a make up consultation, she told me to take a seat and someone would be with me, it was a big Boots in the city centre though I'm not sure if they even do it in the smaller stores. |

Yes. As I dabble in curly girl method I need to up my protein fairly regularly, as most treatments are very moisturising (too heavy for my wavy fine hair). I think about it in terms of protein - moisture balance rather than overall condition, but it gets me what I need. I definitely get better waves when I use it once or twice a week, and the mask has plenty of slip for wet detangling. |

Thanks, still aways to go. I need to practice my social skills and dancing moves! It is difficult for me to express my feelings of affection even when it is appropriate.
Of great comfort to me, since I've been on a lot of dates from tinder and pof - is now knowing, which I didn't before - just that women make mistakes too.
I use hair pastes & pomades from Victory Barber for pretty much the same purpose as beard oils, and I got this unusually good foil razor from Babyliss in their foil line. It looks like a giant zippo lighter. If you are a lady sick of burn or razor cuts, it is a really good product.

I’m trying to avoid make up during the summer. I’m using Dove Summer Glow as a body lotion/tan but I use it on my face too. Gives a bit of colour
During the winter I use YSL primer and foundation for great coverage of my mature skin. I use Clinique skin drench as an instant fresh feel on my skin
I use L’Oreal face masks every few weeks as they make your skin feel really hydrated
In the bath/shower I use Sanctuary foam bath or shower cream/shower oil and I use the same moisturiser as I love the fragrance. I use Elemis Revitalise shower gel for the gym
I colour my own hair with L’Oreal Recital Dark Red and I use pantene shampoo/conditioner |

Hello ~ Yes the Babyliss pro foil shaver is the best by a mile! Way better than the Wahl foil or any other. I highly recommend it too for anyone wanting to shave close cut no bumps, or risk of the foil breaking (which the Wahl does after minimal use)

Tell me what you are loving, what are you trying to resist.. What do you want to try.. What have you got your eye on?!
I'm loving my hair at the moment... It is almost touching my cleavage and is a delicious aubergine colour... It currently looks amazing in a pony tail swishing around or with beach waves (I've been plaiting it when damp)

I started using Olapex because my hair was in such bad condition, and nothing was helping.
It is quite expensive, but I bought my first shampoo and conditioner in may, and I’ve only just finished them, so they actually work out cheaper than the ones I was using.
Look fantastic quite often offers freebies too, so I’ve had some Olapex products which complement them for free. Well worth it on my opinion. |

"I use Bare Minerals complexion rescue tinted moisturiser...it's so moisturising but light to wear, gives decent coverage, but you can put two layers on if you want more coverage and it still feels light.
I set it with Laura Mercier translucent powder and it's so light. "

"
Oh lots of great suggestions thank you... What is BB cream i am practically a cosmetic virgin |

Primers are great. Make your skin a smooth surface for foundation
I use Laura geller baked foundation, you can build up the cover, light for day and more for a night out.
YSL fusion ink foundation is great for a night out. Not too heavy and leaves your skin mega soft.
Bourjois blusher.
Urban decay setting spray is brilliant to keep it on all night.
Usually for daytime I use Laura mercier translucent setting powder.
Agree with cerave moisturiser, I use their face wash too. After I had dermatitis on my face I stripped everything back and used minimal products. Cerave really helped
Hair wise - I cannot rave enough about Garnier ultimate blends hair food mask - I just use it as a conditioner. Smells divine (goji berry/aloe Vera/ papaya) leaves my hair soooooo soft and smells Gorgeous too and the smell lasts
Aussie stuff is my go to as well.
Before drying I pop a little Aussie hair oil on (doesn’t leave it greasy) just protects hair and helped smooth it
I always go between the hot and cool setting with the hairdryer too, makes it shine.
After straightening I use a hair serum to smooth split ends and flyways |

Of great comfort to me, since I've been on a lot of dates from tinder and pof - is now knowing, which I didn't before - just that women make mistakes too.
I use hair pastes & pomades from Victory Barber for pretty much the same purpose as beard oils, and I got this unusually good foil razor from Babyliss in their foil line. It looks like a giant zippo lighter. If you are a lady sick of burn or razor cuts, it is a really good product.

"I stopped wearing foundation a few years ago but thankfully my skin is pretty good.
I exfoliate like my life depends on it, always wear retinol before bed and always wear spf as well
When I wear make up I usually just use a but of concealer around my eyes and then the Indeed Nano Blur face cream but the yellow tone one, which is opaque but gives me a nice glow.

"I need some makeup advice please!!
I wear Neals Yard Jasmine or Frankincense face cream daily
I had this problem my usual foundation and concealer was no longer working for me so I went to Boots and had a free make up consultation took about 15 minutes, found the best concealer and foundation for my skin tone and I'm really happy with it.
Oh that sounds good! I've got a week off soon so i could do this then.. Does it matter which counter you go to?
Tbh I just walked in went to the makeup section and asked a woman working there if I could get a make up consultation, she told me to take a seat and someone would be with me, it was a big Boots in the city centre though I'm not sure if they even do it in the smaller stores."
I might have a day trip to Manchester or Leeds |

"Revolution do a dupe for Olaplex I picked up recently (my old protein treatment for my hair was discontinued). Really liking it so far. (Have never used Olaplex, can't comment on the original. This compares favourably to what I had)
Has it improved the condition?
Yes. As I dabble in curly girl method I need to up my protein fairly regularly, as most treatments are very moisturising (too heavy for my wavy fine hair). I think about it in terms of protein - moisture balance rather than overall condition, but it gets me what I need. I definitely get better waves when I use it once or twice a week, and the mask has plenty of slip for wet detangling."
There are so many products available now.. I need to borrow someones teenager |

I swop between Laura Geller baked foundation like kinky_inked_bi, and bare mineral powder foundation. The bare mineral takes a little getting used to. It is basically ground minerals. You use a very small amount and buff with a kabuki brush. At first it looks like you are not getting coverage, the trick is to buff more and not add more. It takes a couple of minutes to sort of appear 'done', difficult to describe. It is very good for your skin too being natural ingredients. |

"I’m trying to avoid make up during the summer.
I colour my own hair with L’Oreal Recital Dark Red and I use pantene shampoo/conditioner "
Oh i use dove glow on my skin too.. It smells lovely as well.. Never thought to use it on my face
I found clinique too drying in my 30s

Yes that foil shaver would be absolutely perfect. It was designed for barbers to give head shaves and bald fades. It would be fine to use on your body as it has those hypoallergenic foils designed to prevent ingrowns and rashes. |

Moisturizer can be too oily. The powder can control the shine but you need to remove excess oils before applying powder. Use a decent applicator to apply it. I use ben nye powder which is stage powder, great for anti shine. And I spray fixative on my skin before applying any foundation or powder |

Used Estee Lauder Double Wear for years but was really ageing after 40.
Now use Physician's Formula Healthy Skin (about £12 from Boots) and it's the best my make up has looked in a long time.
Primer - Wet N Wild (,one in the pink tube) About s fiver from Boots.
Bronzer- New one from L'Oréal is great. Infallible Matte. Gives a nice soft focus effect.
No7 Airbrushed Pressed Powder - Dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury one.
Fake tan - St Moritz mousse or Bondi Sands mousse.

I had a reaction to a Boots face cream so really wary now ao I feel like I have to stick to Simple products. I use micellar water to remove make up, I love that stuff ~ wish I'd discovered it years ago. Once a week I smother my face in Vaseline before bed....don't ask why I probably read it in a mag one time!
Don't you end up with vaseline all over the bed "
It only goes on my face Midnight! |

"I use Bare Minerals complexion rescue tinted moisturiser...it's so moisturising but light to wear, gives decent coverage, but you can put two layers on if you want more coverage and it still feels light.
I set it with Laura Mercier translucent powder and it's so light.
I was just about to recommend the same tinted moisturiser. I've used it for probably the last decade for daytime looks.
Do you use powder too??
Moisturizer can be too oily. The powder can control the shine but you need to remove excess oils before applying powder. Use a decent applicator to apply it. I use ben nye powder which is stage powder, great for anti shine. And I spray fixative on my skin before applying any foundation or powder "
My moisturiser is very oily.. Hmm i might have to take it with me so they can see it |

"Used Estee Lauder Double Wear for years but was really ageing after 40.
"
Wild 'n wet sounds like something i should have used in my 20's |

"I use exfoliating facial scrub and exfoliating gloves to try and keep my skin smooth but I worry about the gloves taking off the natural body oils causing my skin to become really itchy even when I put Aveeno cream on.
I also think scrubbing my face is causing spots but do get a lot of blackheads on my nose that I don't like the look of "
Maybe the scrub is not right for your skin type?? My skin has changed in the last year |

"I need some makeup advice please!!
I wear Neals Yard Jasmine or Frankincense face cream daily
I have the same issue, I use gosh anti wrinkle chameleon primer to even out my skin tone, foundation depends on the occasion, I use a few different ones from light to full coverage "
Thank you.. Another one for my list |

Make sure you match your foundation to your moisturiser/primer water or oil based and that should stop any potential splitting issues |

I've only known the past few years, I spent years piling on face powder to try and stop it when it was the products causing the issue |

Yeah, skin care makes a massive difference.
I double cleanse with a flannel. Salicylic or glycolic acid on a cotton wool pad.
Hyaluronic acid, Aldi day/ night cream.
Skin is probably the best it's ever been now.

Hello ~ Yes the Babyliss pro foil shaver is the best by a mile! Way better than the Wahl foil or any other. I highly recommend it too for anyone wanting to shave close cut no bumps, or risk of the foil breaking (which the Wahl does after minimal use)
"
Agree. Not cheap as you know, if anybody is reading this - it is about 200 euro plus the cost of replacement foils which you should buy because it'll likely last a long time but the foils could get discontinued. It runs off mains or the battery which is great future proofing.
Matt Conrad has great videos on youtube about shaping and grooming beards, I wouldn't have grown one without his professional looking videos giving inspiration.

I might buy a foil shaver but I won't be growing a beard*

"Hi ladies...
It currently looks amazing in a pony tail swishing around or with beach waves (I've been plaiting it when damp)
I'd recommend a good 'ole facial. Will leave your skin feeling great "
I highly recommend it!! Does wonders for your skin! |

As a self-confessed makeup and skincare junkie, I’m loving this thread! As I’ve got older, I have majorly got into skincare - double cleansing, toner, eye cream, serum, face cream. Finished with face oil at night, and sunscreen during the day (LOVE the La Roche Posay tinted factor 50 one).
I found sorting my skincare out has made a huge difference to the colour and texture of my skin. I use deep cleaning face masks a couple of times a week, and exfoliate once or twice a week, too.
In terms of making my skin more even - I don’t like heavy coverage either - I do like the IT Cosmetics CC cream, also love Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter - I’m on my third bottle of it now. It is nice on its own to even out skin tone and give a nice glow under powder, and is lovely under a light-medium coverage foundation type product. I also love the Boots No7 Protect and Perfect foundation. Another product I love is the Erborian CC cream - again, evens out skin beautifully. I like to use a little bit of the Charlotte Tilbury colour corrector cream once I’ve applied whatever product I’ve decided to use that day (comes in a little palette) then a bit of powder on top.
I could give Boots a run for their money with the amount of products I have hahaha
