Obviously straight people have always had affairs, and gay people have gone cruising for sex, but how did swingers meet before sites like this? On gardeners' question time one guy says pampas grass in the front garden was a sign that the residents were swingers hahaha I've heard about people in the 1970s putting car keys in a pile and drawing one at random to choose your partner at sex parties, but is this true? How did swingers meet before the net???

Postal orders, photos and letters and stamped addressed envelopes. Cut and paste wasn't a thing.

Cut and paste was a thing. It just meant snipping Polaroid photos and glueing the envelope shut in the hope the pics and letter didn't fall out whilst being delivered or end up on the sorting office notice board....

We started off with a holiday to Hedo 20+ years ago, we went every year from then and just had fun there until we met some friends there who had house party’s and introduced us to clubs, then someone at a club recommended Fab

Pampas grass in the front garden. Still works well, just knock on the door and ask.

Contact magazines with a p.o. box.

I worked for a publication that ran these ads on the back pages and operated the p.o. boxes. It was very popular

None of the pampas and keys is actually real.

Who would pick a set of car keys not knowing who you would end up with ?

Metro ....

Full face pics and decent descriptions.... and plenty left to the imagination. That is if your mind isn't boggling.

Well that was the thing.. If you're coughing up for stamps and photo prints and waiting weeks for a reply... You invested a bit more effort in the letters that were written... Imagine opening an envelope with a sheet of paper in. Unfolding it full of excitement and expectation and it just had "hi" written on it...

At a club I got talking to a member of staff behind the bar. They told me the story of how they got into the scene. They put an advert in a contact magazine. They had literally sack loads of replies. Lol.

I remember asking this question more than a year back. I guess there were magazine ads and some private parties through "contacts"

I bet it would have been lot more of a thrill those days

We started swinging in the 90s without any help from.the net. It all started by my wife having one drink to many and telling her freind that she had a massive fantasy about me fucking another woman....and her freind said she was down for it.

So drink and random chance got us started.

After that we looked into what our options where for moving forward and meeting likeminded couples and our options where swinger based magazines and doing things by post or the Internet (this being before most people had digital cameras).

There where clubs as well but none we knew of that where within 100 miles of us (at the time).

We went with the internet which involved posting Polaroids till people started buying digital cameras anyway (we started right at the point that change started to hapoen) lol.

But where there was a will, there was a way and we found a way before fab came along.
