How many on here are first aiders?
I have been a first aider at work for 6 Yeats and hardly ever use it. Now in the last 3 weeks o have used it twice on fairly serious things!
I think its an invaluable skill to have to be honest and think everyone should be trained to some level. In previous years I have done paediatric first aid as well. |

I am and I will keep on with it. Over the last 10 year's I have seen two lives saved after serious accidents at work because there was a first aider who knew what he was doing at one and a voluntary red cross medic at the other.
But you are right. The role play is not fun! |

I think instead of schools spending so much time concentrating sport, they should teach first aid and real life skills which would probably be of more value to more people |

I did a first aid course years ago, then another one in 2008 and also trained and did a course specifically for babies & children and resuscitation.
Other than when I helped the old lady who had fallen in the road a few weeks back, not had to use my training in a long time.

Sport is way better than first aid training. In fact all sport training centre require first aid kit. And sport keep the kids fit

I am lapsed.
The Captain threw me off the medical team because I was over zealous.
Yes I was a little OTT, like that time I amputated a finger because there was a spelk in it, but I got results GODAMIT!!! |

I'm trained first aider, have to be as part of the job. Re-qualified 3 months ago, they also did the defibrillator use as well, so got a certificate for that also.
Strangely enough, the week after the course I was going home & there was a lady who had collapsed at Stratford station (in London). I've posted this bit before so shan't bore you again with it. Since then my skills haven't been needed. At least I can take comfort in the fact that should I need to do any first aid, I should know what to do.

Been a first aider at work for 20 years and I view it as a valuable life skill. Have used the training at work many many times and a few times out of work. Most notably with a bad motorcycle rta which involved an exposed leg fracture and also with a choking incident in a restaurant where the training helped me to clear a blockage when the guy was already turning blue. Will always keep up to date as long as I'm able.

I have and until you need to use it you do not realise just how important it is.
I dealt with successfully thank god a lady at work who took an overdose fortunately she was treated just in time and made full recovery the second time was a road traffic accident 2 folk died one i managed to keep alive till ambulance arrived.
Stressful yes but totally worth it. |

Was in a first aid organisation for 30 years , taught many people f/a skills and helped out many people, it is a vital thing to learn , also taught first aid in schools . We used to have kids groups and they were superb , it is a skill everyone should learn as it could well be some of your own family who will need help . |

Last year I was playing footy in a veterans match when an opponent went down suffering with chest pain. It looked a bit serious so I interrupted the guy asking questions to tell him that I had done my paediatric 1st Aid...
"I'm a consultant cardiologist" he replied.
I left him to get on with it and moved away  |

I've been regularly 1st aid trained since I was 17 due to my job but thankfully have never had to use it in an emergency.
There was an accident involving an adult and a small child at a wedding I was at. Thankfully there was a nurse there to help the guy and us first aiders just assisted him, but I did ensure the mother of the child got her checked out. She was amendment that her daughter was fine because she wasn't crying anymore which, as those thinking more clearly at the time could understand, may have been a serious sign. |

I think basic DR abc First Aid should be tought at school and standard First Aid to everyone who does a driving test.
Without basic life suport you might as well call the undertaker instead of 999.

I had that but got called to a man with chest pain who got stroppy with me then told me he was a GP
physician heal thy self came to mind good job i am a professional as he was having a heart attack   |

Been a first aider for most of my adult life, have found it useful on many occasssions, especially when my mum was about to rub butter into my dads sunburn! Ffs noooo |

You are so wrong. I have saved the life of one of my own kids through what I learnt on First Aid. Also, have many times gave good medical response to injuries of friends & family. |
