Yeah this is actually a thing! Professional cuddling...
Its more than just a hug though... spooning, being held, massaged, stroked etc. Many people find it very theraputic. Lots of people cry, or have difficult memories come up.
Its totally platonic, and for many people thats a huge relief. They dont want to be sexualized in that moment - just held and supported.
Im not a professional cuddler, but Im damn good at it, so maybe I should start charging 
And just to answer the question in a lot of guys minds... Yes! Erections happen. They are normal and not a problem. It only becomes a problem if you act upon it!
