Using hand tools as a joiner. Everyone rushes to plug in or charge a battery up.
I watched someone spend at least 15 mins looking for a jig to router a door for the hinges… use a chisel mate!!

I love using a hammer n chisel, and I’m not even a joiner. I recently re-hung a load of doors at Soze Manor with just a Hammer, chisel, and a Phillips screwdriver. Loved it. |

Thank goodness you didn’t say flat head screws. Those things should be banished from the planet. |

My jeweller insisted I learned to cut gold and silver by hand , I got through hundreds of blades, very very frustrating but so pleased I did. I often find it faster now than using a cutting disk ! And I can file with a saw so saves a lot of money |

I spend so long watching YouTube shorts where people make rings that way. It’s a marvel to witness a great delicate craft. I’m always impressed.
(Is that the type of thing you do?) |

Wise advice that's listened too. 56 yes now and ringing in my ears to today. "Son if you don't learn to do things for yourself, you will have your hand in your pocket for the rest of your life". My Dad has saved me thousands" and all I had to do is listen. |

Amen to that, you struggle to find a craftsman any longer, now it’s a 6month course as a “fitter” of some sort not the 4 years of apprenticeship like it used to be, and people moan that new build houses are crap quality |

Agreeing with the themes, but research and self sufficiency.
Also, flat screws are nice and decorative but I agree, so so so frustrating.
Let's not go into Phillips and posi bits getting mixed up though lol. |

Hats off to all you skilled guys who find producing craftsmanship on the highest level. As a construction site manager, with several projects of my own on the go at any one time, it always gives me great pleasure to meet anyone, man or woman, who takes a pride in their work using. traditional methods. Same applies to motor mechanics who can repair rather than replace, and panel beaters and paint sprayers who can actually apply cellulose are becoming dinosaurs. |

Remember the old expression, ‘time served apprentice’, time being the pertinent word. |

Big thumbs up. And when an apprentice complained about wages. I would tell them at the start they are a burden we are happy to carry. And that it's referred to as paying ya dues, in time when you know what ya doing the big bucks will come. |

Yeah but not very good yet ! It takes years. For rings I like really chunky stuff so would usually cast then file & solder rattan than cut shapes. |
