"News that European Countries may not recognise our blue badge holders. What's going on here guys"
No longer being a member of the EU, means that our agreements with them are no longer valid. There will also be things that WE used to do for European tourists which we will no longer do.

'Disabled drivers are being warned that their blue badges may not be accepted in popular European holiday destinations this summer due to Brexit.
Ministers are negotiating the status of the badges - which were recognised when the UK was in the EU - with 11 nations.
France, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy are among those "undecided" on recognising the discs, which help people park closer to a destination.' |

On the very first day of Brexit freedom, that nice Mr Rishi Sunak abolished the tax on women's sanitary products. That was the first Brexit positive. |

Well. He's certainly getting brexit done...
But I'm sure the new guy will bring back 'integrity' to a party that basically supported all this nightmarish world as soon as it became popular to do so. |

I believe the only actual Brexit positive is that the lovely relatable wealthy don't have to pay their fair share of taxes, because the icky EU was cracking down on some of their schemes. Isn't it lovely that the mega rich pay less taxes *looks at crumbling infrastructure* |

The UK had negotiated with the EU to be able to remove tax from women's sanitary products prior to the referendum. It was due to be removed in 2017, but then wasn't because of brexit.
So actually Brexit delayed the removal of the tax.
Brexit disbenefit. |

In my opinion, not a UK citizen, almost everybody has completely misunderstood the meaning of Brexit. You see you could reverse the decision and a similar event would occur - you don't need to look far to see other examples.
This has almost nothing to do with legal systems or even formal institutions. It is about the decay of knowledge, somebody here mentioned crumbling infrastructure, that is true where ever Brexit-ish type scenarios are happening.
Here is a position: it is generally held as true by the middle class that using manual labour skills is not critical, that these are fungible labour units. Suppose that is not true - and I think it explains why western economies are stagnant.
It is also generally held as true that automation, AI etc will change the future. Suppose this is not true - we don't actually see machines that would replace the sorts of skills blue collar workers do in our economy. They are mythological, widely discussed, rare in practice. Almost all development is actually specific to processing of information - which is too specific to give you a fully general improvement in living standards.
tldr; We actually need blue collar economy to be doing well. It isn't - for social and political reasons - and Brexit/Trump are just the start of a reaction against middle class norms. |

So under what circumstances should the EU not apply their laws to third countries?
To the UK because we're special? Or just when it can whip up an emotional appeal in the right wing rags?
I mean I know the UK regards following international law as optional (#brexitbenefit) but that doesn't mean that other countries have to be lying charlatans too |

Yeah. But apparently we were all lying about the lies being lies so it's not they're fault they couldn't be arsed to look into the facts behind the implications and instead decided everything posted on bookface that was being circulated daily was the absolute gospel truth and couldn't possible be total bullshit, even though it was being posted by anonymous, Union Jack waving Bulldog profile pictured people called 'Jonny English' who were proud members of 'Brittun Fist' and whose entire profile content was shared 'news' from Breitbart, Nigel Farage and Tommeh Robinson......

The government should have tried to align, but there's far to much brexit fall out to get everything.
And why should the EU honour standards that could fall woefully below standard. Non-EU countries could have wildly different criteria for disabled blue parking tickets. |

"Still waiting for someone to come up with a positive. Still haven’t had one
On the very first day of Brexit freedom, that nice Mr Rishi Sunak abolished the tax on women's sanitary products. That was the first Brexit positive.
Which had been in his power to do so anyway.
I believe the only actual Brexit positive is that the lovely relatable wealthy don't have to pay their fair share of taxes, because the icky EU was cracking down on some of their schemes. Isn't it lovely that the mega rich pay less taxes *looks at crumbling infrastructure*"
"Less taxes"? In absolute terms, 10% of £1 million is still more than 20% of £90,000? 20% VAT on bills for 'larger' living, such as higher household bills and petrol costs, dining out more frequently, more 'shopping' and so on also contribute their chunk to taxes. You may be talking about overall percentage terms in income tax and 'hidden assets' in offshore accounts but it hardly means they pay "less taxes". |

The thing with estimating wealth is that 'worth' is very different from 'cash'. An inherited mansion may be worth £50 million, hence its owner is worth at least that. In terms of cash, he may not even have enough to pay for the Council Tax on it. |

As a blue badge holder who travels to EU countries, hires cars etc fairly regularly, this is fucking annoying. Accessibility in many EU countries is also challenging and so not being able to park in designated disabled parking areas, for example, in Toledo, would preclude me from actually going there. I'm a very independent, well travelled wheelchair user, but I have my physical limits. The disabled parking is there for a reason. |

I have no idea but it would be incredibly onerous to do and might require knowledge of the local language to apply. The UK doesn't offer temporary badges, so it wouldn't be daft to assume other countries don't either. |

Don't get it... So if you're a blue badge holder of any other country, and travel to EU, then they honor whatever small conveniences the blue badge confers. But if its a British blue badge... Get to fuck? Seriously? Is there anything else than politics in that decision? Disgraceful of the EU. |

Why should the EU give us benefits when we chose to opt out of the EU ? |

Because we would act on a reciprocal basis for any French people coming here.
I do despair at the current level of politicians, diplomats and civil servants these days, forgetting the wishes & needs of the people they serve. It’s almost as if they don’t like us plebs getting out and about, possibly blocking the VIP & diplomatic lanes. |

It's not just people from Britain though it is people from any 3rd country. We are now a 3rd country so we have to go by the same rules as all the others. |

We did have this. People didn't wanted it and voted leave. Fuck knows why.

How are the EU supposed to keep track of all third party blue badge standards, what happens if Mongolia start giving them to ginger haired people. Hardly fair that gingers can park in disabled spots. |

Why did people vote to lose the help in the EU for disabled people? |

As far as I know the UK doesn’t let badge holders from every country in the world use their badges here! |

It'd be very nice if they did, but unfortunately when we left the EU, we opted to get in the queue with countries like Iran. |

We don't, but that's okay because they are foreign abd we took back control. Obviously when we tear up reciprocal agreements it is only an issue to the press when Brits abroad are inconvenienced! |

Reciprocal agreements we need to do something.
No agreement means they still need to cater to us, because we're very special snowflakes |

"Are they still allowed to park in a disabled bay but can’t use the badge to park for free?"
You cannot park in a disabled Bay without a badge. Contrary to popular belief you are not automatically entitled to free parking everywhere with a blue badge anyway. |

And EU citizens aren't entitled to disabled parking in the UK, so it's kind of fair and definitely consistent |

Same.
I suspect all the parties are all too afraid to lose votes by having an honest appraisal of brexit or even discussing how to mitigate against the problems it's caused. |

I tend to agree... There wasn't much of a meaningful debate in the run up to it... In the "negotiation" process and since b day. Shame on our political process. |

Sometime in the next hundred years, maybe? It certainly won't be top of the priority list. We haven't even bothered to negotiate reciprocal agreements for high level academic investigation, like the European Space Agency projects that British based academics are now being booted out of. Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving. I don't have words to describe how much I hate it. |

Indeed. And hardly a storm in a teacup for those who have to live with the consequences of our government's gross failings. |
