I'm not familiar with Aulden, you don't mean Auden do you?

I'm not a huge fan of Shakespeare really, I think school probably put me off.

Shakespeare is certainly overrated

Every Shakespeare fan I speak to tells me that I would become a convert if I tried a little harder to understand him. I'm sure they're right

If the barely literate population in 16th/17th century England could understand him, there's no excuse in the 21st century.

Not that that makes him that interesting, though!

Do you mean Auden? If so his most famous poem is of course 'stop all the clocks', also known as the funeral blues

I think they’re completely different so I don’t think you can really compare?

Personally I think Shakespeare wrote some great plays/sonnets - and some not so great.

When it comes to Poetry I’m fond of Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

I suspect they understood him because he spoke the English of the time. I can't read Chaucer without a reference book by my side eitner

Neither are a match on Pam Ayres - “Oh, I Wish I’d Looked After Me Teeth” is the pinnacle of literature

I think Shakespeare is far easier to understand if you watch the plays rather than reading them. Hated studying him at school, but love seeing performances.
