For the past few years I’ve been doing the challenge of trying to read 52 books in a year and I normally get a good way past that, but I just finished book 52 for this year, which is the earliest in a year I’ve got to that number!
Anyone else try to do this? |

"I am still on book number 1 it’s never ending it’s called the fab forums "
You should read the sequel, 'Fab profiles". Best bit of fiction ever written ;-p |

I do.
I've been slacking the past couple of years though. Think my highest has been 70 books in a year.
I'm only on my 15th book this year as other hobbies have taken priority.
Do you track them on Goodreads? You can see how many your friends have read in their own challenge if you like a bit of competitiveness. |

Have you tried the fantasy fiction section... the verifications "
Nope but I may do at some point |

I've never challenged myself to do that. Mainly because I tend to read in cycles, I'll read a lot then barely look at the back of a cereal packet for a while. Also if I feel I *have* to read it removes some of the pleasure.
I'm pretty sure my mum and my aunt read well in excess of a book a week though. |

I used to use goodreads but I’ve swapped over to StoryGraph, I get a bit geeky about the stats and stuff which I find interesting |

"I think I've managed 3 this year. I've started 52, does that count?
Absolutely! It’s all good"
I think it unlikely that I will finish them all, I tend to get bored of them easily. |

There was a time I would average a couple of books per week but as things changed I had less time. I recently gave away about 30 novels that I hadn't got round to reading. They had been on my bookshelves for 25 years and more, not much chance of getting around to them. |

Thanks for the info. I've just installed as I also get a tad geeky about the stats.
The book recommendations seems a good feature. |

I could do this. I could easily read a book in a week. When I was on furlough I read a ridiculous amount |

That's pretty good going, roughly two books a week. What have been your best reads out of the 52?
I don't do the challenge, but usually read a couple a week, commuting to work, lunchtimes etc.
Been slowed down by some real doorstoppers this year though : The Terror (circa 900 pages) The Heart's Invisible Furies (c 600), Dune (c 600). All really great reads though, esp "THIF".
Just finished Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. Amazing.
Fascinating and life-changing book.
Currently reading Into The Wild by John Krakauer. It's the story of Christopher McCandless, a young guy who went off into the Alaskan wilderness to live his true life.
It did not end well...

Many years ago I read a book called On Writing by Stephen King, which is about how he writes books and I think it said in there he reads 100 or more books a year, plus he probably writes 3 or 4 a year so must be reading constantly. |

Yes, I’ve had some good ones from that. There’s an import function to transfer all your goodreads data across too which is good |

Some interesting sounding books there.
I think my top 3 books this year so far have been
The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn
Notes on an execution by Danya Kakufka
When women were dragons by Kelly Barnhill

That's a brilliant book. Stephen King says there's always time to read in the dead time when you're not doing anything. And he means it.
I remember reading an article by a guy who saw King at a cinema one time (it was no big deal, the writer said. King is just a regular guy in his home town, nobody hassles him).
He said that as King queued for his ticket, he had a book open, reading. He got his popcorn, still reading. He was reading as walked to his seat, and still reading right up to the moment the lights went out, when he stopped.
After the film was over and the lights came on, the guy searched for King. Sure enough, he was reading again.
Surprising how much time you can find if you try. |
