Well the old one is full and I suppose we can call this the wrestling thread for now..

Anyway… vince has retired from wwe as ceo of the company

And in response apparently brick lesner has walked out of smackdown as well… let’s see if he gets the same unprofessional tag that Sasha and Naomi got

Anyway.. I’m a AEW and new Japan fan… just interested in wwe fans views of what has happened

From the land of haribos.

I dont really watch wwe so much anymore since the brock lesnar days, but I like vince and I can guess that it wont be the same without him. I did hear that he will remain involved in wwe's creative content, the company said

"vince has retired from wwe as ceo of the company"

As we said last night when we found out... What other allegations are about to come out?! What's he done than is worse than what we already know about?

I would say its a PR stunt to dissociate him with the company. He will probably still be pulling all the strings but as wwe is so PG, he can't be the face of the company anymore. It lost it's way a long time ago and any true wrestling fan, AEW is the place you need to be.

Was never a huge WWF or WWE fan. First got into watching when TNA came about and now AEW.

Usually spend my Friday nights watching the highlights, if have not taped so can skip all the ad breaks.

Anyway shed loads has changed…

In wwe.. vince came Back to take control (like it’s own season of succession!) and then merged/sold it to the parent company of UFC

In AEW, tony khan has decided to swing for the fences and has announced the biggest show in AEW for Wembley stadium on the Sunday of august bank holiday weekend! Will he sale out 80-90k???

I reckon AEW will do a big number at Wembley Stadium. I don't think it's a sell out but I reckon they will sell a ton of merch. Fair play for them to do Wembley Stadium, I thought they would do either O2 or Wembley Arena for the first UK show.

Tempted to get a ticket but I'm dreading the prices.

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

Already have tickets for something else that day so can't go gutted! But they will 100% sell out, especially if its a one off show. I'd rather watch one expensive show of that then sit through the horror that is wwe.

I've tried getting into AEW but I just can't, even when they had CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Col all join at pretty much the same time. It felt like there was too much to keep on top of and you were expected to know the indie backstory to every wrestler without actually explaining the character or why we should care. The closest they came is the Adam Page storyline with Kenny Omega.

"Wwe never been the same since the attitude era, the good old days."

Seconded, the Attitude Era was WWF/WWE at its best. Raw and Smackdown were exhilarating shows, the pay-per-view shows were fewer than now and better because of they were fewer.

Sadly since the advent of the PG tag wrestling has lost its edge at the same time it lost its biggest names. The Attitude Era passed and what we have now are a bunch of pretty-boi posers who talk a lot with little action, it is more soap opera now than it ever was.

Only standouts in the current crop are Bray Wyatt, but seems he may have been sidelined with Vince back in charge.

Never got what people see in Roman Reigns, overbloated ego with zero talent.

I loved attitude era but I really enjoyed the ruthless aggression era too. Felt like a slightly less mental attitude era with more emphasis on wrestling, particularly on Smackdown.

Reigns title reign has gone on far too long but I feel people wouldn't have been so sick of it if he hadn't been shoved down our throats for a decade.

Reigns reign needs to end, he never wins straight, mainly because I don't think he can anymore. There needs to be either a cage match, or lumberjack match so his interface crew can be cancelled out.

Read somewhere that all the other titles have changed hands 65 times since Reigns won, that is ridiculous, it's harping back to the 1970s/1980s when world champions held the belt for years.

I did see that… I am guessing they are going to have some big screens above the ring… so the 30/45’s might not have the worst view in the world… I saw the seating plan… I actually fancy the back of the floor seating at 75…. But I’ll see what is available for the pre sale on Tuesday

Hopefully AEW will be in the North East soon.

Yeah plus hotel prices will be higher than normal. Some of the prices when WWE came to Cardiff were eye watering. Maybe they'll do a UK tour some time and do episodes of Dynamite and Rampage.

CM Punk has just been fired by AEW. Statement released by Tony Khan

“Phil played an important role within AEW and I thank him for his contributions. The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision, and mine alone. Of course, I wish I didn’t have to share this news, which may come as a disappointment to many of our fans. Nevertheless, I am making the decision in the best interests of the many amazing people who make AEW possible every week – our talent, staff, venue operators and many others whose efforts are unsung but essential to bringing our fans great shows on television and at arenas and stadiums throughout the world.”

I'm actually pretty shocked by CM Punk's release but I will say that as a non-AEW fan that keeps up with what's going on, the fact I know more about what went on with him compared to their biggest show ever after selling out Wembley speaks volumes about how much he's overshadowed the product.

The benefit of having him there now isn't worth the drama that comes with him and think AEW can now hopefully move forward in a positive direction.

"Once Stone Cold left and it turned in to PG wrestling I lost interest. "

When the Attitude Era ended I lost interest. Of the current crop none grab my attention, LA Knight has potential but everyone is obsessed with the over-hyped/under-talented Dominic Mysterio, so I think LAK will be wasted on mid-card matches.

One thing they need to do is end this Roman Reigns/Tribal Chief farce. It's boring and has dragged on too long.

Sadly the possible future of wrestling has just died. Windham Rotunda (Bray Wyatt) had the potential to be an Undertaker level longevity star who could have carried the WWE for the next 10-15yrs.

I honestly never thought he'd go back and really thought that bridge was burnt. I think this is better than a Rumble return as I always feel like you can't really soak in a reaction of a return to go straight into a match.

Horrible news about Omega.

Who do we all think the devil is in AEW? I thought it was Max at the start, but commentary have leaned in to it possibly being him, which makes me think it’s not. It feels like they’re trying to convince everyone it’s Jack Perry with the broken glass each time. If I had to choose now would say it was Adam Cole.

"Horrible news about Omega.

Who do we all think the devil is in AEW? I thought it was Max at the start, but commentary have leaned in to it possibly being him, which makes me think it’s not. It feels like they’re trying to convince everyone it’s Jack Perry with the broken glass each time. If I had to choose now would say it was Adam Cole."

Jack Perry and Adam Cole are too simple a choice.. I think they are waiting on certain 90 day release clauses to be up and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were dolph or mustafa Ali …

Anyway I have it scripted.. MJF to lose the title to swerve at revolution… then he loses it to will osprey at all in… and we also better have ZSJ Danielson 2 on that card as well!

I just watched Collision (that’s an action-packed show, btw. Jesus). Keith Lee referred to Swerve as “Him” and that he was “tired of waiting”. I think the implication was that it’s about Lee finally getting his feud resolved with Swerve, but I think there’s a good chance that the devil might be Swerve and that Keith Lee is working with him and the Embassy to take out everyone. If there’s a 6’3” 300lb guy in a mask on Wednesday, then I think it’s confirmed for me.

Aye he's gone, gone.

Lesnars names been thrown around quite a bit too.

Do you think maybe The Rock will eventually become President/Spokesperson or some role like that for TKO considering how much of a beloved face he is?

I think you absolutely use his face for “damage control” if it helps.. for example, this is a new WWE ect ect…
