I am always dieting but in a slow way as I dont want to lose the progress that I am making, here is my plan, from january to june in a deficit, july to september maintenance and oktober to december a small surplus, it is fun |

I just try to eat healthily. I try to include 30 different fruit, veg, nuts and pulses into my diet each week but this is getting tricky as food is becoming more expensive.
I should probably look into protein shakes as I'm not sure I eat enough protein. |

I have a vegan diet so get to eat shit loads.
Pretty much all home cooked so very little processed.
I have a protein shake each day (peas/oats/chickpeas).
Mostly don't worry about deficits but I'll go for a few weeks without eating evening snacks from time to time and that always makes a big difference. |

If you've done it all your life is it really a diet? For me diets are short term things to get you to a goal?
I am your typical yo-yo dieter. I do well up to a certain point then fuck it all up. Tried them all (except stupid fad ones like the cabbage soup diet or juice plus/Herbalife etc....I like to eat actual food).
I do go to the gym 5 days most weeks, I lift heavy shit and do functional fitness type classes. I just need to sort my nutrition out! |

Yes it is. A diet really just means/describes the food you eat. For example a healthy / unhealthy diet. Whichever foods you habitually eat that’s your diet…
You can go on a specific diet if you are wanting to lose gain ot maintain your way… |

High good fat & protein. Low carb (with a weakness for home baking). And crazy amounts of supplements to even everything out for mind/body/soul balance.
15 hour intermittent fasting most days- but that’s based on female cycle too- as is my exercise regime.

I recently spent some time in the company of a GP who specialises in metabolism
He tells me that your metabolism is akin to a central heating thermostat. In your early years your metabolism sets its self to automatic. If you start fiddling with the dial (dieting) to suit your needs the thermostat then isn’t automatic….. you are manually adjusting your metabolism so it doesn’t know where automatic is! Hence yo yo dieting

Sounds like very simplified hogwash to me
Yo-yo dieting, where people lose and gain weight, is what happens when people do unsustainable diets and don’t know how to eat normally when off the diet
For example, people will do keto and lose weight, but they don’t know how to keep the weight off without keto. So they either do keto for life, or gain it all back when they stop keto |

I just try to have a varied diet with portion control and exercise as often as I think is necessary. If I know I'm going to binge on snacks and alcohol for example I usually go for a long run a day or so beforehand knowing that I've already gained a calorie deficit. |

Vegetarian high protein low carb.
500'ish deficit plus exercise for the cut, down 25lbs in two months so no complaints.
Probably going to have to up to maintenance soon, then look at a recomposition.
The sad thing is if I want the abs, I'm probably going sub 200... which after almost 25 years of being way over that feels very peculiar. I could go all more plates more dates, but sheesh, I'll stick to Joey Delaney style as the side effects from Daddy Delt Death Stars systems is less than ideal. |

Low carbs if I'm trying to cut, but the first two weeks of this I'm a miserable bastard!
If trying to bulk just up the cars try to eat as clean as possible most of the time rather than any crash diet etc |

Live life and enjoy yourself, we’ll all be dead soon anyway. If I can piss people off by being a “drain on the NHS” for being fat its totally worth it just to see them get all flustered and upset inbetween eating rice chicken and broccoli and slurping pre workout shakes |

Never been on a diet - however as a diabetic there are certain foods I will avoid or have in moderation purely for health benefits as opposed to weight management. Lucky enough to have a fast metabolism and I exercise daily that will do me, I love my grub xx |

But nobody cares
What I will say about eating less food though is that personally I've found doing so makes the food I eat way more enjoyable. I don't think it's true that everyone on a diet is miserable. They might really enjoy their diet. |

I'm an amazing short term dieter but I always yoyo.
Honestly, I lost over 7 stone in six months then put it all back on over the next three years. Then lost 5 stone again, currently in the process of gaining that back.
I can stick to any mad diet for a few months but I know it won't last because when I fall off the wagon I do it big time.
I'm completely rubbish at moderation. Small sustainable changes for life. I'm very much a binary all or nothing, on the diet or off the diet type of dieter, which isn't healthy and doesn't get me the lasting results. |

I rarely enjoy food now. The only thing I get excited about is cold Cherry Lucozade; which I drink too much of.

All things in moderation, a relatively balanced and healthy diet but no guilt at a takeaway. I don't drink alcohol so not going to feel bad about an occassional pizza or McDonalds
I've exercised all my life but in recent years I've got more strict so my diet reflects that. I've got the same size waist at 50 as I did in my teens so I'm guessing I'm doing something right

I’ve had a healthy lifestyle for years, and am very conscious of what I eat, but I’ve not been well, and put a bit of weight I , so I went back to fasting (5:2) 6 weeks ago, which is working very well for me |

A gradual one, I slowly cut down the amount of food I eat over time. It's what I've found works best long term. It can be frustratingly slow but after having ED it's what is best for my own mental health. |

The interesting question is why the yo-yoing occurs. We have differed on this before, but someone on keto shouldn't be treating it as a diet, but a lifestyle change. If you're eating in a certain way, your body responds in a certain way. Take that stimulus away and it maybe goes back to the way it was. Willpower is usually never enough as you're fighting hormones. It's never as simple as just "put the damn fork down" (credit: Peter Griffin, I believe). If your metabolism is trying to attain a certain level of body fat, then "bending" it with a diet will lead to temporary fat loss until the dieting stops. When you eat in a certain way, and it achieves a certain effect, then breaking that "habit" inevitably leads to the body lapsing back to its old status.

Low carb, moderate fat, moderate protein is what makes me feel most healthy. I'm an emotional eater and sticking to it is tough at times. Food was presented as both consoling and a treat when I was a kid and its hard to unlearn that. |

I think I disagree
Certain diets force you to “put the fork down” in one way or another
For example, keto cuts out an entire macronutrient. By completely cutting out carbs, people are naturally going to eat less, thus putting down the fork
They stop keto, and suddenly the fork is back up. They are eating carbs the way they did before they lost the weight, and it comes back
Another example is intermittent fasting. You only eat within a small window. This naturally cuts out snacking, and essentially you are putting the fork down. Stop intermittent fasting, fork is back up.
I think if you want to stop to-yo dieting, you need to do it the hard way and learn how to do portion control with the diet you already eat. A diet you could eat forever. Not some fad your trying to do to lose the weight
If the method you use to lose weight isn’t something you can sustain, you’ll struggle to sustain the weight loss too |

Abstinence is better than dieting. We don't actually need to eat every day, 3 times a day. Nothing wrong with going a day, or even two, without food. But we are conditioned to keep eating. Take a food break every week and roll back the pounds. And £££'s |

We both eat an adapted ketogenic diet, carbs don't really agree with me so this suits.
By adapted I mean higher protein than fats but less than 20g carbs per day, traditional keto is high fat. |

If I remember rightly, true keto is only low/moderate protein because too much protein will be converted into carbs and can knock people out of ketosis right?
Not heard the term adapter keto before, sounds interesting |

Apparently so, but I use blood tests to monitor and I've never been out of ketosis, eating this way has allowed me to lose over 4 stone in body fat but bulk up at the same time (we looked very different 6 months ago haha)
If you search up the dave palumbo keto diet that gives you a basic insight into it. |

I don't think I'm any kind of dieter. I don't track calories, or protein intake, or fat. I just try to eat the foods I think are good me and limit the ones I'm not. I could do with tightening it up on the weekends because I feel I lose that structure of a working week and can also do with snacking less or snacking on healthier stuff |
