Just switched my alarm off this morning for the last time until September.

Summer holidays are almost upon me!!!!

Who else is celebrating six weeks of bliss, or maybe it's six weeks of sheer Hell for some.

Feel free to share you're summer holidays plans.

*Apologies to anyone expecting a "Flashdance" thread ;-p.

My '6 weeks of bliss' start on Thursday. Can't wait. We have a week in Devon booked, but no plans for the other 5 weeks......yet

I used to love that feeling but now my 16yr old works so we still have to get up to get him there for 7.30 (worse than the school run!).

My 18yr old is having surgery in a children’s hospital an hour away from home in August so that’s all I can see ahead of us, he was in for 8 days last time so am expecting similar.

I’d have loved a holiday but with that, the other one needing a lift to work, money and animals it’s just not looking possible this year. I’m hoping to maybe get a couple of nights away with the youngest somewhere, we’ll see x

Hi 5 op.

Nope, and I’ll be working those six weeks you have your feet up counting down to when you go back …

Enjoy your break. Teachers deserve it

I don't tend to go on "holidays" I'm just enjoying the time off. Not ruling out a quick trip to Barca but more likely its Manchester, Leeds or Liverpool

Should be fun. I haven't had the time to attend the day time clubs so hopefully I'll get to check a few out too.

Why thank you. I'm not actually a teacher but a TA. Everyone that works in school works their arses off. There is a reason we look forward to the long holiday - it totally helps prevent burn out. In my role im a make shift "mother figure" to a lot of vulnerable children, a cleaner, a nurse, a social worker, a therapist, a preformer, a climbing frame, an educator and occasionally a punch bag. It can be very draining.

Fortunately I no longer have to do any planning and I'm free from the endless piles of paper that teachers have to deal with.

I love my job, its awesome.

And yes, teachers/TAs/midday meals supervisors/school cooks/school cleaners do deserve this holiday!!!

I did all that in my vanilla job (Early Years Education), plus all the paperwork, planning, evaluations etc but without the summer off as we work all year round. We got annual leave but it wasn't as much holiday as if we were termtime. Obviously our pay reflected that but we still earned less than school staff i longed for longer holidays

Retirement is bliss

Used to love and hate the break up for summer, yes it meant not doing the school run and hassle getting kids sorted but meant my coffees and other meets with the school mums were over for six weeks
