Ice no.

But to warm to drink it at “room temperature” unless taken from a cold room or cellar. So fridge more than acceptable for a short time.

Where ever I lay my hat

The French know a thing or two about wine and always say the Brita drink white wine too cold and red wine too warm. They will often have a chilled red. In this weather I've been putting the red in the fridge for 20 mins before opening. Try it.

There are several red wines that are made to be served chilled.

The vineyard I lived next to in Germany produced one such wine. It was delicious

Yes, you most definitely can drink red wines chilled. Some styles even taste better with a light chill.

Rioja is often served chilled in Spain....you'd think they'd know, wouldn't you!!

As for Port, white Port should be chilled certainly.

They serve chilled Shiraz in Australia at Christmas. It's actually quite nice.
