Chris Packham has raised concerns over chicken welfare. A million die each week before we can eat them. All about price apparently.
But then earning chicken feed we cannot afford pricey birds can we?
However even the French, yes the French have all signed up for better chicken welfare.
Should we give chickens a better life before we roast or munch them in a bun?
Packham? Wonders if he grieves over cured packaged pigs too… ? |

"Tough one, if everyone thought about the welfare of all animals and their by-products before eating them everyone would be vegan"
And bizarrely if everyone became vegan, it would result in extinction for all farmed animals... which may or may not be better?

Yep.
Can't see many adopting all those spare cows, sheep and pigs as a domestic pet.
How would it work?
Would there be on massive last all you can eat BBQ open to everyone?

There’s absolutely definitely no way that would happen - I’d rather be a cannibal than a vegan |

I always choose when buying eggs , chickens or chicken breast , legs , thighs etc . To see if free range. I do buy from wholesaler . Have to trust label. ? . Yes as OP has said there are many deaths which Chris Packham has highlighted. Note I have read Chris Packham is a vegan ? So has his own agenda . Again my thought is . Someone who I watch on animal treatment ,breeding and then sold for human consumption is Hugh Fernley Whittingstall . He is more truthful ? Admits Chickens are breed to eat and need to have as he says ‘good ‘ life before killed , eaten . Same as other animals breed for eating which he also shows on his programs . ? |

Didn’t we try this about 15 yr ago? (Circa). Hugh went on a rampage, the supermarkets did take notice and submitted by doing something, which was a little gesture of putting free range chicken in a more prominent shelf. And raising the price of the £2.50 bird. (Who did that help?? )
I think Ghandi said that society can be judged on how they treat their animals. There’s something in that.
Good farming is looking after an animals welfare, even if they are to be slaughtered for food consumption. Respect the damn thing for crying out loud. And there’s a lot of people to feed. I don’t know what the answer is, but animals do suffer.
