Video in the news over a cowardly cyclist hitting a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. She died of her injuries. He got 12 months sentence but some campaigners want the law changed so these buggers can be jailed for longer akin to the sentence available to car drivers.

In fairness plenty of motorists kill pedestrians and cyclists, get convicted of causing death by careless driving and get a suspended and a few months ban.
Which isn't condoning the cyclist in this incident which is indefensible, but when a cyckist is the perpetrator in a death it is front page news because it is incredibly rare. The 100s of cyclists and pedestrians killed by motorists each year barely get a mention in their local news.
We are conditioned to accept the death and destruction motorists cause but get angry about cyclists when the numbers are far lower, the car lobby is very powerful like that... |
