Inspired by another thread where a forumite said they didn’t feel comfortable doing things alone I thought I’d share some of the exciting things I’ve done on my own as a single female to show that just because you are alone doesn’t mean you have to miss out on life. And yes I’m always shitting a brick about doing it but I suck up that negative stuff and go for it anyway.
The more you do things alone the less you care about what you think others are thinking…so, I have:
- Travelled to Asia for holiday
- Attended countless gigs/festivals alone even some stadium events (that’s scary because of claustrophobia/crowds but so worth doing)
- camping trips (although I always get noisy tent neighbours… :-/ )
- toured Ireland
- travelled to many places in the UK (literally 1,000’s of miles driving alone)
- taken myself on beach dates
- explored castles and places of history
- often take myself to the cinema, pub and or dinner dates alone
- bought a house
- set up a business
- went to group socials alone and met a great family of new friends
So ladies/femmes do you do things alone? Do you want to do things but being alone puts you off? Let us know here…
Guys you are included too as I’m sure you feel nervous too at times but I aimed this at the ladies/femmes because they are often judged for being alone more than single guys are but please participate too
Note: don’t reply with full quote…I waffled a bit |

Mr here (I never post) I went cycling through France camping on my own it was awesome. Three books and a rough plan to get to the Pyrenees. Where are you going to sleep? Well there are campsites everywhere just stop when you are tired and you see a campsite sign.
The only thing I regret was I got bored of a diet of baguette, sausage and cheese. Thought I would go for a meal I happily ordered. Then realised ohhh this is the bit where you talk to someone else before your meal arrives. I forgot my book.
Every other experience was amazing I hope that my kids feel confident enough to travel and explore while they are young. |

I'll take myself out for coffee and before I moved, I used to pop to the local on my own but I knew everyone in there. I don't particularly like going places on my own except food shopping, I prefer to do that by myself

I've not done anything big on my own for ages, but I've been for long weekends away alone, cinema, lunch out, lots of castles and abbeys because everyone I know thinks they're boring....
I'm not in the right headspace for solo things right now and need to stay near home, but I will be again at some point. |

Have done, and achieved, loads with others and loads alone, like the OP, it is always scary, but a great sense of achievement at the end.
Being a solo participant shouldn’t hold you back, if you want to do it, then do it |

I've travelled on my own, done gigs on my own, pretty much prefer the cinema on my own!
But it's good to have the choice of company. I was sat in a pub last night on my todd and just thought "Nah".After two years of lockdown particularly I miss that human connection. |

Its been a while but I went on holiday to the USA/Egypt/Turkey alone
I've been to gigs alone
I've travelled quite far to fab socials alone
Having said that I probably wouldn't do anything like that again so I'm glad I did what I did and quite proud of myself too |

I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here the room's pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
No answer on the telephone
And the night goes by so very slow
Oh I hope that it won't end though
Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
You don't know how long I have wanted
To touch your lips and hold you tight
You don't know how long I have waited
And I was going to tell you tonight
But the secret is still my own
And my love for you is still unknown
Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
Alone... alone... |

I do most things alone.
I work alone but I do interact with people at work.
I go to see live bands and go to the pub. I rarely pre arrange anything with people. Sometimes I happen to see someone I know.
If I didn't do it alone I wouldn't do anything.
Even sex is alone at the moment. |
