Who else agrees that it should be closed on a sunday? I never do any shopping on sundays. I think it is a good idea to have one day a week with no trading, imagine how tranquil it would be when going out |

Making it bussier. |

Definitely not. Peoples lives are very different now. Working all hrs day, nights and weekends. For some people ( normally the lowest paid ) Sunday is the only day they get to do their shopping. It would be unfair to stop that. |

Not sure about not being open on Sundays but I think there should be a "men only" day once a month! Think of the efficiency of it all? Plenty of easy parking, men turning up, getting what they need and getting out again within a few minutes !! No women "browsing" clogging up all the parking for hours on end and buying basically nothing!! |

No, as much as I like the idea of it, we live in a 24/7/365 society now and it wouldn't be ideal. I do think on Christmas eve and boxing day they should be closed though. |

I wouldn't be able to do chores and food shopping on any other day unfortunately...I just don't have the time in the week.
I guess if shops would to close on Sundays, I would adapt to the situation...but I ain't going to church! If that is where the conversation is heading to |

Sunday is just another day of the week to many.
Those that spent religious couldn't care less. Those that work shifts spread over 7 days couldn't care less. Many self employed couldn't care less.
Why force people to shop.on the other 6 days when there's no difference between Sunday and any other day?
Imagine if someone suggested shops should be shut on Saturdays?

Yes they should! For sure! If people can't get what they need the other 6 days then they can wait! Used to work OK back in the day plus half day Wednesday back then! That said working In a big supermarket although I'm not contracted a Sunday but when I cover for someone I do like working it as in and out b 4 shop is open so no tiresome customers x |

Some shops are closed on a Sunday. I'm glad the one I need today isn't though as it's the only time I've had to go shoe shopping for the littlest monster.

If all shops shut in Sunday's they'd be horrifically busy on Saturdays because most people work during the week so don't have the opportunity to do their shooing other days. Then you'd all be moaning about queue times and lack of stock etc. |

"I can't believe this is even being posted as a question - have I woke up in 1987 today?"
Quite possibly. I’m just settling in to an episode of Henry Kelly’s Going for Gold. |

Closed on Sundays, early closing day in the week and shut at 5pm.
While the men are at work the women can do the shopping in the week.
Life isn't like that any more Shag. If we want 24 hour health care, access to various facilities 7 days a week and while the cost of living mostly needs two full time incomes shops are going to have to be open on a Sunday. If we want tranquility any day of the week we're going to have to make our own

No, it’s a secular country and those old Sunday trading laws are outdated. Many people need Sundays to shop. I think it’s ridiculous shops in the uk close at 5:30 too, when are you meant to go shopping if you work ? |

As someone who often works Monday-Saturday I often need shops to be open on Sunday.
It also great that Lily and I can go shopping for clothes or niceties together.
The reason I don’t work Sundays is because we CHOOSE to be closed. We’ve done our business assessment and decided that all staff having the same day off once a week is not only convenient for a rota but allows everyone to organise to do things together if they wish.
So no, let’s not go back in time just yet. |

"No. Shops should not be closed. And Sunday trading laws should be scrapped. I would much prefer shops to be open on a Sunday same as any other day "
This ,we are not living in ancient times anymore especially with the internet and the likes of amazon people want everything yesterday.

How would men do their Christmas shopping if closed on Christmas Eve? |

Um nope it will never go back to 24hr opening thank goodness! Not worth it for the few that shopped between 11 and 6 x |

This. We need to update to match society's movements, Same as the academic calendar, that needs a serious overhaul |

Nope, I see no reason why they should, so long as staff can get days off elsewhere during the week with their shift patterns. If we wanted to stop "all trading" we'd need to close restaurants, cafes and pretty much everything else too, which sounds pretty awful to me. |

It's a distraction to focus on having one day off. The reason people fixate on Sundays off is because it was a nice relaxing day off for most but the real issue is that workers don't have the rights to have time off so they can have a life.
Workers rights to a life not Sundays off! |

Yes... however there will be people highlighting this in some way shape or form victimises people...
Citing life is different now blah blah blah... what about the poor and people who only get Sunday off.
In reality... its entirely doable partially because life is so different.
A Sunday of no trading may give people a chance to rebalance and see oh I don't know... friends family... or just wind down |

Most of then are closed on a Sunday
Nobody works Sundays unless it's hospitals or emergency services
Asda do open for a few hours
10 till 4 I think but Nobody shops in there so the staff don't have to do too much
Only other thing petrol stations are open |

Should we close all businesses on a Sunday, then? Like restaurants or swimming pools or museums - places where people like to go and spend time with their friends and family? |

We only "managed" without them being open thanks to the religious fiddy-duddies who frowned on such things happening on the sabbath.
If you want to go back to the old days, head to the Western Isles. NOTHING is open there on a Sunday. No ferries or flights either. |

isn't that why the internet was invented so you 'guys' don't even have to do 'battle' with the car parking?!
Or is that being too down with the kids lol
"
Us men can't buy online ! What if it doesn't fit! That means returning the item (hassle), re-ordering the item (hassle), trying the new item on ( hassle). Can you see the pattern here ? |

My shifts are 6am - 6pm or 6pm - 6am plus handover time plus travel time to and from work so often I leave my house at 5am and am not home until after 7pm or later if there’s been an incident and a longer handover. If I’m rostered for a Saturday and Sunday and Monday I have to do my shopping for work food on the Friday because shops don’t stay open very late on a Saturday at the moment (since covid) and they don’t open early or stay open late on a Sunday.
So that takes away time with the family in another part of the week as I’m not able to pop in on way home from work on Sunday. My work hours don’t change just cos it’s Sunday |
