Hi all, there used to be a thread about cycling, which kind came to an end, so I am trying to give it a new elixir of life. So, any cycling swingers out there come and say hi and maybe, if we are not too far away from each other, we could organise a ride one day Happy cycling. Right, off to a 50 miles ride in Hertfordshire now

Love to get out and about on my mountain bike...

Just something about it makes me feel so fresh and free...

Wanted to do the great north trail mid July but don't think finances are going to allow it this year.

Only been able to ride for last 3 years due to issues

I’m a cyclist and get out a couple of times a week to do 30-50 miles. But like another poster has said; a couple of events I’ve booked will be missed due to the cost of travelling to them

We watched the cycling time trial yesterday. We cycled over to watch it as it was on the other side of town, and got cheered by the spectators at times. It was a nice day out

I'm tempted as it's my old training roads but also tempted to head in to London (which is much more practical) and cheer people on at London Triathlon.

Probably try and do 50 miles, probably out towards Dunstable and back, we are lucky on Hertfordshire as for some reason most of London still thinks Surrey is the place to head!

I watched it on TV and it was a really exciting race despite the flat course, felt sorry for Cav, as soon as Caleb Ewan pulled out it was obvious no other team would want a bunch finish. Loved the Ghanaian corner!

Sat in the bath with radox muscle therapy after 87 miles today in Lancashire and doing 71 miles of Wales Ironman course on Saturday. Can't say I'm looking forward to the 112 miles of Ironman in 2 weeks time. The two circuits of the north loop are just mental with crazy climbs followed by descent's one after the other for around 80 miles of the course.

210 to about 240 miles depending on your route planning (or more if you want to make it so)

You have 3 days to complete it - Though I’m planning to do it in under 24hours.

For the first time in decades, I’m back on a bike again. Recently bought a hybrid through ‘cycle to work scheme’, commuting at l_ast twice a week. It’s only about 2 miles each way, but there’s a 7% incline for about 300 yards, carrying 2 panniers with stuff. I’m hoping to get up to 4 times a week and join a local cycling club.

I’m noticing that I’m becoming quicker and faster each time I commute and energised for the day ahead. Although I’m no longer a night owl and in bed by 9!

How did your ironman course go?"

Completed it in horrendous conditions on the day. Just concentrating on the bike, it was treacherous on the descents once the heavy rain started. Probably the toughest day in the saddle I've experienced. Just come back from Barcelona Ironman 70.3 where it was polar opposite..... beautiful sunny day and flattish course.

Not all that North of North London

I did a great rode last weekend, train up to Cambridgeshire amd then West across the county before heading south through Herts.

It was ridiculously warm. I didn't have the fitness fir a 50 miler though! Nothing for the next few weekends as I've got too many running commitments

"Out tomorrow but the weather isn't looking favourable at all. Light rain forecast all day. 50 miles with some climbing and back in time to get to the football.

Sounds like a good run out, Where are your hills? Parbold/Roby Mill/Appleby Bridge has a good lung ripper.

All of the above but also get out into the trough of bowland and across to Rivington too"

I've done St Helens to Winter Hill mast and back via Skem. That was a good one.

I only manage to ride once this week - first time in 2 weeks, due to viruses and weather conditions. Luckily, I haven’t lost much fitness, as it took the usual time and stayed in third gear halfway up the hill!

So, any cycling swingers out there come and say hi and maybe, if we are not too far away from each other, we could organise a ride one day Happy cycling. Right, off to a 50 miles ride in Hertfordshire now "

Just switched to tubeless - a lot more comfortable given lower pressures. Also had a power meter fitted and did 24 miles last night and 40 today (today was wet cold and windy) as I get used to riding with the power data. Club ride for 30 tomorrow

I’m considering TrainerRoad - just had a power meter fitted but do 99% of my miles on the road all year round. Is it any good and does it make a difference?

I only use it when the weather is foul. And yes, I think it’s good - it has hundreds of different workouts to choose from at different effort levels and length of workout. In terms of it making a difference, in the winter possibly yes, but only if you use it regularly and set up a training programme. Try it and see what you think.

If you have a “smart” turbo, e.g. a kickr, you don’t need a power meter - the turbo will calculate that for you. I would recommend a cadence monitor, though, since specific cadence ranges are suggested by the various workouts.

Lots of reviews giving positives on both Zwift and TrainerRoad. Absolutely right around Zwift being a social platform - give me the chance to go outside I’d do it any day unless absolutely hosing it down. I’m headed the TR route as I only have a basic turbo (power meter also does cadence etc)

Managed a combined 100+ miles each weekend for the last 2 weeks but been lucky with the weather. Have friends up from London this weekend so no riding. Did the first Zwift session on the turbo last night. Anyone used FullGaz ? We picked up a trial period at Ironman Wales which we've not installed yet but wondered if anyone has any experience of it as a platform.

I just stick to Zwift. I've been on it for about 2 years now, so I don't wanna start again on a new app. Though saying that, Zwift is insanely temperamental and frequently decides not to work for whatever reason.

Have a look at Rouvy too - realistic simulation, best used on a big TV screen in front of the turbo.

I guess it depends on you, I have some Decathlon fleece ones which are too hot for me, I mainly wear Galiber cyclocross gloves as my hands get too hot...I've been out in the winter and had to take gloves off and ride bare hands and 2-5c.. Same here - so much salt down as well - rain and warmer temperatures due Sunday and will wash away the salt/slush/ice then watch for potholes. Not taking the bike out until all of the salt washed away - kills all of the moving parts
