Most Asda trolleys have RFID wheel locks to prevent shoplifting and to ensure people take the trolleys back - the latter being the reason the £1 locks were introduced in the first place (an amount most people wouldn't want to have lost on a shopping trip at the time).

So you usually won't get a free trolley from Asda unless you happen to live in the car park or are willing to carry it home...

(I should probably point out that I'm neither a shoplifter nor am I advocating theft).
