Myrrh can be used in incense and medicines. Both useful for babies |

Why is incense useful for babies? |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
"If not why not"
There were 3 wise women, but they arrived a lot later as they had to stop every 10 minutes to go for a wee.
They may also have needed to reconfirm their route, but at no time were they lost or unable to navigate, oh no. |

I expect they would have asked the way though without arousing Herod's suspicions |

Because women would have been wise enough to know that a woman who'd just given birth in a flaming stable with no pain relief wouldn't want three blokes turning up and have to make polite conversation. They'd being meals, something useful for the baby, do a bit of housework, make the new mother food and then clear off. |

To be fair, the nativity scene as its shown these days is likely nothing like what happened (or at least was recorded as happening) anyway.
According to the gospels, the light in the sky appeared at Jesus' birth prompting the wise men to travel from the east. In the absence of Easy Jet it's fair to assume this would have been a journey of some months at least, if not a year or more. The gospels also clearly state they visited the family in the house, not a stable. An indication of the length of time they arrived after he was born is given when they went to King Herod and his response was to kill all children under the age of 2 as opposed to all newborns. Herod would obviously have hedged his bets but I'm guessing the average Roman soldier soldier was quite capable if distinguishing between a newborn and a 2 year old so this suggests he was working with a longer timescale than "we're seeking the king of the Jews, we think he was born last night".

No chance of them arriving on time though... Apparently |

So they say. I think we both know that's an outdated and ridiculous stereotype, much like my own post |
