Hey guys, are the fab forums dying? I'm not criticising any users or threads, but I was here a year ago and the forums were packed, people arguing or getting off with each other, most threads were full within a few hours....I think the fab forums are slowly dying and thats a shame RIP

I do find a lot of the same topics on the go just with different titles. I enjoy the forums though

Central

In 15 years here, the forum has cycles of goodness, lulls, negatives, etc. It's influenced by many things, including seasons and weather, as well as having a life of its own. The pandemic affected us all, including the site and thousands of people who joined then still make a mark. We all have greater demands on our attention now, so we are increasingly selective on how we spend it. Sex lives will also affect the forum - perhaps more of us are actually spending more time shagging?

Do you want threads to fill up quicker though?

I dunno, when I first came on here a few years ago I found it a bit too much sometimes (ie from the perspective of someone new). There was a lot more people around, and less repetitive single-line posts as a consequence perhaps (or maybe just quicker-filling threads I don't know).

There are more mods around now for sure. Not sure if that might be a factor. I have maybe noticed some quieter days lately though. Maybe some people have left Fab.. Is it really that bad? --pt

If you look at the Archives stats on the standard website, if anything more threads are being started now than ever (ie taking all the factors into account). The Lounge is likely to be around a typical 3500 this month. But maybe the other fora are seeing more action than they used to? I'm noticing that Swingers Chat and Wales look set to have the biggest ever amount of threads started in them by the end of this month.

Didn't the whole forum used to be very Lounge-heavy? Maybe threads are being moved or people are migrating.

Also, perhaps the Lounge is losing some 'post popularity' due to the sheer amount of threads that are started on some days? I don't know the forum history well enough to compare on that though. --pt

Agreed... It's just a bit of banter with strangers at the end of the day... If it don't work for you then don't engage?... I'm terrible for floating in when I'm a tad d*unk I loves the drama Mic!

Also I've noticed that mods have taken to removing whole threads rather then just closing them down. I understand why they might want to do this sometimes (if the Opening Post itself is all wrong), but they can sometimes just remove the offending posts I feel (and possibly even the OP on it's own sometimes) - removing too many complete threads risks people feeling that any post they make can simply just vanish for some reason or other. It's not going to fill people with cheer if it's happened to them a couple of times close together. So that may have some residual effect perhaps. --pt

"The world demands more productivity each day leaving less time to waste here "

This is true I'm sure, yet though posts may possibly be down, actual thread creation over the forum as a whole seems to be on the up. Maybe people are just dropping them then running off. -pt

Reading

I have found that. Depending on topic . Sometimes it is who replies , that this generates more replies .

Also again if a post is done and gets a few negative comments . Then thread dies. Again due to who posted , who replied. Yes there are the regular daily, nightly posts that will always generate more response . ?

I’ve seen highs in here

Lows

I’m a bit like Sophie up there …. I’ve been on and off for years, like a Chesterfield sofa shall we say.

This is a quiet period, but not the quietest I’ve seen it. To be honest, I’ll take this rather than the ‘he spoke to me first’ arguments that used to frequent these parts a few years back

Belfast

People often confuse productivity with popularity on the forums and after a while others can't be arsed starting threads because they feel they are competing with more productive posters.

I've started original threads on the lounge and barely reached double figures in responses and other established forumites have deliberately posted exactly the same thread but worded differently and it fills up in no time.

The Irish forum has basically turned into Lounge Lite with numerous daily threads openly borrowed or stolen from the Lounge so it's easy to see why people can't be bothered anymore.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

I think "dying" is a bit dramatic.

Maybe OPs tastes have changed.

Maybe the current generation of forumites is less spread in terms of opinions, so there's less polarisation.

Maybe having more mods has calmed things

Maybe having politics and virus sections has enabled the most toxic material to get ring-fenced.

They are definitely quieter... They go through periods of being totally domibated by one or two posters and then when they stop posting there is nothing to fill the void!
