Reports said it has probably been excreted by someone given a live Polio vaccination overseas

Norfuck! / Lincolnshire

It wasn’t discovered in a sewer at all, it was discovered at a sewage treatment plant where they regularly test for diseases

It was stopped in 2004 as Polio was eradicated in UK thanks to vaccinations

Switched to IPV rather than OPV, it's still in the vaccination schedule

These sewage plants are a magnet for rats. Will the rats catch it and pass it on or worse mutate the virus...

It's been found at two separate sites in East London so not just a one off

Central

They are thinking of trying to track down a narrower source of area it's come from, then stepping up education campaigns, to increase polio vaccination there. It's not as high in some parts of London, as the rest of the UK.

Why? Isn't this proof OF vaccination?

I gather that this is different from samples found in recent history, in that it indicates a cluster (related samples), not just a single source.

Presumably if this were evidence of vaccination, it would be no different to samples found in recent decades.

"The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says it was probably imported to London by someone who was recently vaccinated overseas with a live form of the virus."

From the BBC. I admit that might be rumour control, to stop panic.
