*finishes straightening hair*
"I am turning the straighteners off."
"I am walking to the plug socket in the wall."
"I am watching myself pull the plug out of the wall."
"I am re-checking the empty socket before leaving the room."
"I am getting in my car."
"I am ready to leave."
*starts pulling out of drive*
*starts wondering*
*remembers straighteners auto-shut off after 1 hour so it's fine either way*
...
...
...
"Fuck."
*gets out of car and runs back into house to check empty socket* |

"I do this with locking my front door when I'm going away for the weekend "
Ah I have this too. I managed to leave my door unlocked for a whole weekend once (plus one of my bags on the doorstep). Luckily I was living in a super safe area at the time and nothing happened. Definitely a wake up call though! |

"If I am distracted I take a pic on my phone then I can assure myself they are off and not burning the house down "
That's a good idea!
Knowing me though I'd probably convince myself that I got possessed by a demon who made me plug them back in and then forget about it |

"This is why I've got a WiFi smart plug for my ghd®. I can turn them off from the bus, just in case.
Ooo this is interesting! I was thinking about a timer plug but this could work too. "

TP-Link Kasa, from Argos. £9. |
