I couldn't narrow it down to one but I'd have to say Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners has to be a contender. Luke

couple, us we him her.

Greatest Pop song?

Not greatest song or band or singer.

We are talking a pop track designed for a specific purpose, to be well made and have mass appeal, I'd have to say as much as it pains me.

Britney, Toxic.

The production value, slick well made easy listening and easy on the eye video.

Mass appeal from the teenage fanbase to pervy old geezer's and everything in between.

Failing that pick any boy band track.

I’d say it’s probably

Thriller by Michael Jackson

Catchy song from an already huge artist, that made perfect use of the relatively new phenomenon of MTV by having a cinematic video

Breathless by The Corrs.

I am into rock but if pop is the category that's the song I would choose as a favourite.

The purest 'pop' songs for me (in terms of being effervescent as much as popular) were probably the Motown numbers tbh, just as the purest ballads were doo wop.

My favourite ever bit of pop trivia: Toxic is about supervet Noel Fitzpatrick.

"Itchycoo Park by the Small Faces. 3 minutes of pop music perfection."

The entire pop formula was created in that era so it's a fair shout to pick a song from there - and what a song!

Other favourites of mine from that era:

I only want to be with you - Dusty Springfield

Everlasting Love - Love Affair

Time of the Season - Zombies
