Alright people who have periods. Let's talk about it.

Does anyone else get cramps they can feel in other parts of their bodies?

What does your period do to your sex drive?

Which menstrual products do you like best?

Best period snacks?

Also... anyone used the menstrual cup you can have sex while wearing?

Let's chat :D

No cramps elsewhere

At the beginning, I don’t want a penis anywhere near me. Towards the middle/end my sex drive goes through the roof.

I don’t have favourites and I don’t tend to need to snack more.

Where do I start LMAO…had horrific periods since I started (and I was 10 when I started), went to the doctors several times and was fobbed off, was refused the pill because I’m fat because ‘it increases appetite’ as if the worst thing in the world is me putting on some weight, finally got a doctor to listen to me when I was 17 and was diagnosed with PCOS at 18; had a scan a couple of months ago to check for endometriosis (family history) and apparently I don’t have neither PCOS nor Endometriosis despite the fact I can’t walk, eat, sleep or move during my periods.

The pain is so horrific I feel it all down my legs, up my torso etc. i also have PMS and PMDD for up to 3 weeks BEFORE my period; and then I still get cramps after my period. I don’t know what’s going on with me, but it’s strange lmao.

What’s worse is that I’m allergic to sanitary pads and tampons; I use pads anyway but you can imagine how that goes.

I knew someone who similar but worse to you. Am sure she had extreme endometriosis, she be bedridden for 7/8 days while on period, take two weeks to recover, then a good week, when she’d be able to ride her horse comfortably (had a sharer for the days she couldn’t manage) then it would restart again. She had bits of womb lining all over her insides and had organs stuck together because of it. There was nothing the drs could do and she was medically retired at the age of 22. She couldn’t keep a job because of the weeks she’d had to spend in bed.

1. No but when I was younger I used to get migraines so bad that I couldn't see, couldn't eat, couldn't even sit up let alone stand. Luckily this stopped.

2. Even when I feel shit, no change. I still want it as much, if not more than usual. But I'm more likely to wank than seek another person, because then I can be grumpy and in pain and not have to tolerate someone else

3. Cup, always cup! Been using one for about 12 years now and can't ever imagine not. If for some reason I can't use it or I need something extra, I use reusable (cloth) pads.

4. Alllllllll the salty crunchy things. Plus potatoes, in any of their glorious forms.

5. No, I just go for it anyway and we clean up after

I’ve not had a period since February (menopausal) but I only had cramps in my tum. I do get headaches these days though when I get my period, they make me feel nauseated.

My sex drive goes high and I like sex on my period.

I use sanitary pads.

When I had them, my cramps radiated down my right leg but I've got endometriosis so not sure if that's typical.

My sex drive increased but I often felt very unsexy.

I liked tampsons with plastic applicators but I felt bad for the environment so managed with cardboard ones. I sometimes used bodyform pads.

Whatever the hell I craved .

I've never used the cups but I tried beppy sponges for when it was lighter and they were great.

I'd definitely request a second opinion. If it was an ultrasound scan you can't see endometriosis on them. They're more likely to see it with an MRI but they can only officially diagnose it with a laparoscopy (or if they happen to see it during another operation).

I have PCOS and uterine fibroids so my periods vary a lot!

I get stomach cramps for the first few days and sore legs.

I find cardio exercise and lots of carbs help

I get extremely horny on about day 3.

I use a mooncup with an added cloth pad for night.

Everyone’s cycle is unique but if something changes or you’re in a lot of pain then please go to the docs. X

Cramps are not too bad for me, maybe 1 day of moderate pain in my back, legs and vulva (no one talks about the throbbing vulva!!! Or maybe it's just me?) But my PMT has been awful for about 10 years, I'm an angry, weeping, self hating mess!! My anxiety would be through the roof.

I've been on the mini pill for 2 months and my anxiety and PMT have all but disappeared, sex drive has increased (probably because I'm not so anxious anymore) and I just feel generally great don't imagine it works like that for everyone but it has for me.

Snack wise... anything sweet! Cakes, puddings, biscuits mmm

I get back ache, although not every time. I do get grouchy and lose my temper quicker than normal for a few days before it starts.

I don't think it affects my sex drive particularly, and I don't think it really affects my appetite.

I do keep looking at reusable sanitary products and thinking I should get some. Washable pads are probably what I'll go for. I just haven't yet. So it's the cheapest tampons that you insert with your finger, and panty liners from Wilko's for me

Urgh that sucks.

Have you had bloods etc for pcos? it very often mimics endometriosis...

Do you have any of the other symptoms (I say that as my scans never showed anything but blood work, hairsuitism and laparoscopies show the opposite)

Being allergic to stuff is awful.

Have you tried period pants? (Or reusable ones)...

I find tampons unbareable and I have

Hidradenitis suppurativa so I struggle with pads. I use a mix of soft sponge tampons and period pants which I find are comfier and much more skin friendly.

Used to have horrendous periods, the pains would go down my legs and my back, found the depo injection good as it stops the periods, the reusable pads and cups are supposed to be great for the pains,I'm not exactly sure how, I've not tried them but did some research when I was struggling.

I use the Ziggy cup ( the one that's like a disc and you can have sex with it in)

It's amazing, leak free for hours and great for sex, it just has a steep learning curve trying to get the bugger in!

My advice is stick with it, even though it's massive it does go in quite easily. Although you'll need to get aquatinted with deep diving if you know what I mean

Oh my god, I suffer horrendous periods. I've got endometriosis so the pain would be in my stomach, hips, back and down my legs. Sanitary towels all the way for me and the only "men" who could come near me for the first 3 or 4 days were Ben and Jerry. After the first few days my sex drive would rocket.

Before I found the contraceptive pill that actually worked for me I used to be in agony for 7-10 days before my period would actually start. I would also have super irregular periods so could bleed every 2 weeks. It's just a nightmare. I haven't missed them at all while pregnant

I have all of the above, the pain the grumpiness the boobs that feel like they want to be wrapped in cotton wool anaemia, the eating, crumpets is my go to. Doctors that don't listen when I say I bleed 240 days out of the year, I'll be lucky if i get two days a month where I don't bleed. I can just about cope with it i have to but what I can't stomach sometimes is the amount and the clots. When I feel one and they are large, I get a queasy hot flush that just does me in. I'm a four at a time nighttime kotex girl.

I remember my first. My mum said I hope you don't have periods like me. The school nurse had to phone her as I wouldn't leave the toilet. When she got to school she brought medium size towels and the nurse said I'm sure that size isn't needed! And then I opened the door and the nurse went white and said that's not normal... I was in juniors and 9

I'm so glad my mum had explained what could happen at a young age but i still cried when I saw her

I mostly sailed thorough my periods until 2 1/2 years ago, when it suddenly got really bad.

Eventually had a hysterectomy, so I don’t have that anymore.

Ladies who have extremely heavy bleeding or clots, see your GP. It isn’t normal and there may be a reason.

I have fibroids so have super heavy periods so dont trust a cup. Tend to get very horny the week before which Dave loves!!

Don't often cramp but weirdly I have done today. Once every 6 months I'll get a migraine on day 1 or 2.

My mood tends to be OK throughout which I put down to never being on the pill.

I have fibroids, so my period can be really heavy, days of heavy bleeding, passing large clots etc. Tranexamic acid helps a lot. It slows the flow right down but the period lasts much longer, which I'm OK with. I'd much rather have 10 days of medium to light flow than 6 days of Niagara. My PMS has become awful in the last couple of years. Sore boobs, pain in my back and lower abdomen, the throbbing vulva, headaches, sudden rage, water retention, anxiety, hot flushes, cravings for ALL THE FOOD. It can start a week before my period and continue for the first few days. Hate it.

I'm a menstrual cup and cloth pad woman.

Like sex once the flow has slowed down after a few days. In missionary position. On a towel.

I'm 49, been peri-menopausal for the four years and I have fibroids. I'm on the mini pill and only have a few symptoms of peri menopause. Pretty sure if we both came off the mini pill, the menopause would hit us big time. I'm actually too afraid to come off it as I'm sure the fibroids would start bleeding again as the doctor said staying on the mini pill is what's keeping the bleeding away. I'm damned one way or another. Hope you're ok x

Does anyone else get cramps they can feel in other parts of their bodies?

No, but I do get hot flushes at night, and one sleepless night before my period.

What does your period do to your sex drive?

Usually, I feel pretty rampant just before and during, but not this month.

Which menstrual products do you like best?

I mostly use pads, find tampons really uncomfortable these days.

Best period snacks?

Pretty much anything just before, pastry, cake, Chocolate. And definitely chocolate during.

Also... anyone used the menstrual cup you can have sex while wearing?

No, thought about the sponge... But would worry about getting it out again!

I was given tranexamuc acid but it made my cramp worse. Horrifically worse. I missed my last works night out as I'd taken some and ended up doubled over. Had to stop taking them which is a shame as it helped with the actual flow and clotting.
