Scientists have claimed that making love is the ideal way to get rid of the seasonal allergy after a study in Iran found a link between intercourse and a reduction of symptoms.
The experts claim that sex tightens the blood vessels in both the nose and eyes, which could alleviate some of the condition's most irritating symptoms - such as streaming eyes and runny noses.
Neurologist Sina Zarrintan said: "It can be done from time to time to alleviate the congestion and the patient can adjust the number of intercourses depending on the symptoms."
However, Dr. Gareth Nye - a lecturer at Chester Medical School - has cast doubt on the theory and suggested that sex sessions could actually make the symptoms worse.
He explained: "With the average length of intercourse being around five minutes, you won't get relief from hay fever for very long, if it does in fact work.
"If anything, your symptoms may worsen after sexual intercourse, because if blood is being drawn away from the nose there is less immune system presence to control the allergens."
