I camp in a tent in Dec, either during Christmas or over New Year, whichever requires me to take less time off work.

I don't like to mix playing with camping, as I camp at family sites, and do not believe it is appropriate.

Camping in December Pearl???? It must be freezing. The great outdoors is only great when the temperature is in double figures!!

I had camped in Dec and/or Feb since 2009!

Got electric hook up and fan heater, and a canvas tent with a zipped in groundsheet, very cosy.

I see what you mean. Adult only sites would be needed. I've a motorhome and thought it would be a good way of accommodating if and when the opportunity should arise.

You're very brave. We once camped out in the garden (don't ask!) in July and it was freezing. We went indoors at 2am!!

And my motorhome has more radiators than my house. Very warm and snug.

I camped in Feb this year and woke up with snow on my tent, and it was lovely.

No kids, no bugs, very quiet, what's not to like?

Got waterproof socks so that I can continue to wear Crocs/mock Crocs, as cold and damp feet are very unpleasant.

Changed my stove to one that burns liquid fuel, as I discovered butane and even butane/propane mix canisters did not work well at sub-zero temperatures to my cost in 2009.

Can't wait for my next trip over the New Year at a site a few miles from home.

Don't want to venture too far in case of bad road conditions. Also, it means I can go home to feed the cat.

I'm going to pretend I didn't read that. No way you'd ever wear crocs.

I'm shivering just thinking about the cold tent!

I'm not into the tent style of camping but love going away in the motorhome. Even a site that just 12 miles from is great. Away is away after all. Got all the home comforts but the peace and quiet can't be beaten.

Aviemore 3 years ago saw their worst snow for years, I was there buried in the stuff. Minus 21 at night and just minus 6 in the day fantastic.

Ask femme!

She once took them off me when I was at Chams and hid them from me!

My next tent is likely to be a trailer tent in a few years' time when my body can no longer take the physical strain of erecting a tent.

My current one has 30+ guys alone, being a Dutch pyramid in design, very stable in bad weather though.

Nowadays, I give in and take a large dose of Ibuprofen before I go to bed on the first night so that I can sleep. I would then spend the next day taking it easy.

Don't fancy tin tent yet as I find them claustrophobic.

My van is 28 foot long 7 birth.

Far from claustrophobic, I think anyway.

30+ guy ropes is a lot of banging, and not in a good way !

No walking across a cold site to get to a warm shower.

I only go camping with my dog in a 4-berth tent, anything bigger would be a bit OTT!

Besides, I can just about park my little car, and would not risk having a big motorhome.

Bought a Kampa Khazi for use in the tent late at night.

I time my trips to the facilities block so that the dog gets to go out for his at the same time.

And the sharp change in temperature from the warm cosy tent to the cold outside is rather refreshing.

I know what you mean about the cold fresh air, does make you feel better. More alert. So you have a TV with you or just use the hook up for the heater ?

No TV, however, I take the lappy, and make sure I stay at sites with WiFi so that I can surf the web.

Also carry a few DVDs in case I feel like watching a film in the evenings.

You can get TV on the laptop easy enough to cant you so that's all you need. I like the tiny little farm sites, normally no one else on them. Cant be doing with huge holiday parks and paying for stuff i don't want.

You ?

Don't watch much TV even at home, and I have yet to be able to get a good reception on my lappy, so I don't bother.

For personal safety perspective, I like to stay at sites where there is a warden on site 24/7.

I guess you must. Don't think of that when I look, must be hard to find little sites with a warden then ?

Try sites on a working farm or next to a pub.

And no, I do not stay at small sites.

That's the sort I go for, pubs or farms. Normally the farm sites win as pubs and be a bit loud when they turn out
