I was having brunch with some friends during the weekend, was lovely and it was basically 6 ladies round a table enjoying the sunshine.
Obviously conversation shifts to men (btw majority of the ladies were in a relationship) and star signs. 
I freaking love it when we go there, and I know some people think its a croc of shit, but I genuinely believe there’s something to it. And all the other girls seemed to be on the same page.
Me and this girl discussed how we both got traumatised by Gemini men as .. so much fun, but the biggest fuck boys ever (I need to email urbandictionary to upload the pic of this guy under the definition of fuck boy). Also another thing, how the hell do I always end up with either one of these:
Aquarius men
Tauruses men
Gemini men
Like ALWAYS, what are the chances? its unreal. Give me an Aries or something! please!!
Im definitely rejecting applications to those 3 signs

The definitions and predictions given in astrology are so vague that they apply to about half the population, probable more. Anybody can find things in their lives that match something in their star sign because so much fits into the descriptions. That's how it works.
A good way to investigate it is to look at star signs different from yours and see if they could equally apply to you, because there is a very high probability they will.
Even better, get somebody else to read predictions from different star signs but not tell you which. See if you can work out which is your star sign. I would be amazed if you could do it with any reliability. |

Our star signs aren’t meant to be compatible…we are meant to be complete opposites yet we are pretty much the same person, same traits…so whilst I don’t disbelieve, I don’t believe they can fit one set of people all the time.

I can't see any reasonable mechanism by which my day and month of birth would have any influence on who I am. I credit/blame my family, childhood, culture, experiences for that. (Sagittarius)
But several months ago someone introduced me to something else astrologically based. And it's not vague newspaper horoscope type things, it's incredibly detailed and kind of spooky.
I still see no reasonable mechanism by which any of it could possibly true, but it's an interesting story. Maybe a metaphor. |

I’m not a fan because not only does it have no proof, there’s proof going against the idea.
And generally I don’t like the idea of pinning peoples personality down to a star sign.

It's all a load of rubbish but have no problem with people believing in it. That said, if I met someone and they tried to determine our day or plans by what some unpaid apprentice was forced to write as part of their work experience for the paper then I would have serious questions.
Also, confused about it. So in theory according to these things everyone born on the same day and year as me has lead the same life?
Another also, if they are to do with the alligning of planets and stars and we live in a solar system where things happen on set time scales as things orbit, I assume at some point this just gets repeated every x number of years.

Those are positive matches. Have you found any negative cases? You don't want to only count the hits and ignore the misses.
For example, I looked my star sign and a few random ones. I'm supposed to be like Aries but I think Libra is a closer description of me, although both have aspects of me that I recognise, as is the case with all the ones I looked at.
Why do star signs only give positive descriptions? They always describe people are strong or dependable or whatever. They are things people aspire to be, so they are more likely to appeal to people's self image. Why don't they say "You are a complete piece of shit, you waste people's time, you have no common sense and you dribble"? |

I like leering about other people's birth charts especially mine, no I don't believe everything they put out, as it can apply to anyone, especially when they put out your horoscope for the week. However it could just be the way we choose to read it and there's something more to it. Myself I'm a Capricorn sun, with libra rising and Aries moon. So yeah quite an odd mix |

I wouldn't ask the question about someone's star sign but I do find it interesting. I'm a Gemini and do have a lot of Gemini traits but with a sprinkling of cancer traits and I wonder if that's because I was premature and was due a few weeks later so should've been a cancer |

Also just to add, when looking at our signs we mostly go off the western astrology which is known as the tropical (fixed) zodiac chart, whilst the other is known as vedic astrology.
Vedic astrology uses a system in which positions as planets are observed in the sky in respect to constellations.
This therfore relies on four seasons that represents the sun's movement, equinoxes, solstices as well as the tilt of the Earth on its axis. It was known about 2000 years ago that both tropical and sidereal signs were in the same positions, but an event known as precession of equinoxes made these signs drift apart as they still do today.
Today many of us (who hold some truth to this) use both tropical and vedic signs to get a good understanding about themselves, some would say the vedic side is more accurate and reliable as its based on the laws of nature, both signs have merits to them and ofc there are the disadvantages to them.
As previously stated I'm a Cap Sun, libra rising and Aries moon, but in my vedic sign, I'm a Sagittarius sun, with virgo rising and pices moon.

I don't think the universe can determine my personality traits, but then I guess you are looking at the whole nature/nurture debate which has been raging for hundreds of years.
I think social and ecomincal upbringing has a lot to do with it. Dating men of the similar age from a similar town with a similar upbringing will in my eyes result in many similar characteristics and behaviour.

I like a passing glance at my horoscope (GEMINI) when I'm checking the news, but as others have said it's vague enough that it could be applied to a great number of people.
I'm usually due to meet the love of my life, acquire a fortune, but shouldn't change anything or go for a change after all what do I have to lose? Typically they are not mutually exclusive.
All subject to which con artist your reading. You would think that at least 2 would read the same signs and say much the same thing?
My Chinese horoscope is typically more accurate but even that has its minor flaws.  |

I used to buy into it and read mine every day as a youth due to being influenced by my mum who was a massive believer.
One day as usual I felt I could relate to the prediction until I realised I had read the wrong starsign. After reading all 12 signs I realised I could find relatable traits in them all.
Now believe its all a generalisation that most can relate to. |

I find it interesting but don’t take it too seriously but I have noticed that my close friends do tend to be of sun signs that are supposedly compatible with mine and love life I have been drawn mostly to people with the same sun signs - but I’m bi and I’ve noticed the men tend to fall in one group and the women another
There are if you look into it descriptions of the negative as well as positive traits of the signs.
And I’ve found I relate to them too and noticed they are fairly accurate wrt exes
Eg cancer was very possessive and clingy
Leo was actually insecure and needed constant reassurance he was still attractive to opposite sex
There are certain signs I struggle to converse with as they tend to be quieter and less chatty and that makes me uncomfortable but I get that’s my issue not theirs
