To lose weight?!

Just come back from a 3 week holiday and I ate out everyday while away. Iv gained a stone… which wouldn’t be too bad but I slowly gained a stone since xmas too so I’m 2 stone heavier then last year now

Yet I can’t seem to get motivated to start losing weight even though I really need to. Iv already ate 2 crumpets this morning and a mars bar

Any tips on how you get motivated to lose weight? What helps you get in the zone?

I haven’t been this big since I was pregnant over 10 years ago

"What is your reason to want to drop the bodyfat? (22 yrs exp as pt) "

Because I feel fat, my clothing doesn’t fit properly & I don’t like my body this size.

But yet I just can’t seem to stop overeating. I’m normally really good with my diet but this year has been shocking food wise.

I have to set myself a reason for doing it that can’t be worked around. Doing it for better fitting clothes, for example, doesn’t work because I can just buy bigger sizes.

I there some you could do, or would like to do, that you wouldn’t be able to (or would feel uncomfortable doing) carrying the additional weight you’ve mentioned?

I actually put some clothing over my full length mirror in my room.

Il remove them. Didn’t think of that.

If eating the wrong things is the problem then I don't buy them, not having them around helps massively. But I try not to deprive myself of food when I want it so I make sure I buy healthier substitutes, I'll have salad, nuts and different fruits to graze on instead of chocolate and crisps.

Agree, get rid of all the bad food from the house. I set myself little targets, start off slowly, say to yourself I’m going to be really good for 2 days. See how you feel after that 2 days, you will find that you already start to feel better and realise it’s not that hard. Drinks lots of water too. There’s some good diet books out there that can help too.

Exercise is a wonderful escape from the joys of overeating. Even a good brisk walk is very good and is an excellent way to burn fat - even more than running.

I've learnt to do it for myself. I don't stop eating what I want. I just eat it in small portions and eat the good stuff in bigger portions. You got do it for yourself.

Running burns more calories over the same time period. Meaning it is quicker for burning the amount of calories needed to reduce weight.

However, walking is easier to maintain when you get started so might be easier to keep going

Motivation isn’t great, because it doesn’t last long

“Change doesn’t happen until the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of changing”

It also really helps if you properly understand how weight loss works so you can pick a diet method that works for you, without getting tricked into these silly, unsustainable diets you often see thrown around

The mirror is what I use for my motivation. I look and see what I need to improve / on change and visualise my goals that are ever changing

I love exercise so I eat healthily to perform better but also because I'm happy, I don't eat out of boredom.

That's not quite right. Running is going to burn more energy. Although whilst I'm running I'm burning through muscle energy (glycogen), my body will burn through my fat stores afterwards to repair my muscles and replace that energy. So my metabolism stays high. You might hear about runners trying to stay in the 'fat burn zone' but that's not to trick the body into burning fat for weight loss, it's a more sustainable fuel source for long distance events.

I like dancing … when no one’s looking or I’m d*unk

I have been looking at a couple of pole dancing classes that are local … but again I need to at least shift the first stone before I brave it!

Fingers crossed I get to the 2 days. I’m keeping busy today as I don’t have work.

Cold showers on a morning. Fills me full of energy Go in while it’s warm, then just before you get out. Try 30 seconds of cold. It REALLY helps xx

I look at an unflattering photo of myself and then look at a photo of what I’d like to look like. Every time I want to skip the gym or eat something I shouldn’t, I go back to the photos, works for me
