If you only do it once, try and go to Whitehall and watch the parade live.
Watching the brave men and women marching in respect of the fallen is very hard to discribe but it makes you feel very proud and very humble... |

If I should die, think only this of me;
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
~
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
~ Rupert Brooke
(I know it refers to England and English, but it's not my poem so I don't feel I can change the words to Britain and British) |

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
This about sums it up for me |

This....
Its a very humbling experience..
I will observe it tomorrow morning as I always do, I stand alone, and cry.
Many men see tears as a weakness, personally im proud of the fact that I care..my Dad was cremated on Armistice day so its a special day for me...
People who ignore it deliberately sicken me
RIP...None but the brave. |

Tomorrow is not a day to remember war or violence but it is to remember those that have paid the price both the ultimate and the small because whatever price they paid they did it with honour with bravery and some without a choice. We live in a world so far removed from it all now although we can see it all real time. We have become immune to the rel horror of it all. Tomorrow is the day the and the place we can forget everything else to honour those who stood before to give us those rights |

"As if by magic the banner just changed.
Take a moment to remember all the fallen, those affected by war still and what we can all do to bring peace to the world." Perhaps the goverment will honour the heros from Afghan and iraq by trebling the donations made to help the heros charity? |

To all victims of wars, worldwide, whatever religion, colour, nationality, whether civilian or military - they should be remembered and we should never glorify war ever again and learn from history. I always wish for that |

Yes - but most of all to stop using guys for pointless, illegal 'wars' like that in which we've no business. Such a waste of life and just for the government's oil-greed. |

I will be paying my respects in the morning... Arranged for my bestest friend in the world who was in Afghan this time last year to march at our local parade. I'm so proud of all my friends out there right now, I know she lost some very good friends out there.
Great respect for our armed forces past and present. |

My grandad is 92 and spent the war in north africa with 1st army. He is still a hero and always will be. God bless you gramps and all who follow where you went. Many times since nan passed away have i dealt with the vivid nightmares that are still common. If we ever forget these people society is dead. Please educate the younger generation. |

Since WW1 began in 1914 to the present date, 2,156,317 british men and women have been killed for our freedom and other nationalities...WW1, WW2, Korea, Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Falklands, Gulf and Afghanistan to name a few.
We will never forget the fallen and give our respect to our boys and girls still fighting today. |

I am in tears.... The proudest thing was to be an Army wife...
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain. |

Just to remember my Dad, injured on one of the Normandy beaches whilst in a pre-D-Day operation involving PLUTO (d. 1979) and my Uncle Bill - Merchant Navy - torpedoed once (missing - returned home). Torpedoed again (missing - presumed dead).... and made it back.
Thanks to you and to all those who just 'did their bit'...
xx |

They joined up to serve their country on national service. No choice . Respect to those and those brave enough to serve now. We will remember them. |

I am now back from the Remembrance Day Ceremony in Stamford where I wore my medals and two regimental badges with pride. There is a picture on my profile. It was a lovely sunny day, the band played well, those on parade marched and the last post was played extremely well. Full marks to the bugler, it is not easy to play like that in the cold. There were a lot of respectful people watching I am pleased to say. The Service of Remembrance was short simple and very appropriate. The dead were honoured.
For me Remembrance is a very personal thing because of people lost and my own post traumatic stress disorder. I am very pleased that this year I was able to stand through the last post and the following silence with quiet dignity. Unlike last year I did not shake at all and enjoyed the sense of occasion and sharing with all those people on the street. It tells me that the trauma I suffered has now left me and I can move on. It is very much being Clare that has helped.
A good day and out to dinner tonight with friends with a few drinks to celebrate. |
