In the supermarket carpark yesterday i saw a gorgeous woman well into her sixties wearing a miniskirt that finished at mid thigh over bare legs. She was also wearing a suit jacket on top.
I thought she looked so classy and hot but i understand many find this inappropriate for her age. What's your view? |

I used to know a little old lady in London years ago who dressed head to foot in black leather. Trousers, biker jacket, topped off with a red beret and aviator shades. She must've been in her late seventies at the time. This was in the mid nineties    |

I was just thinking about starting a thread in a similar vein because of a conversation I was having with our daughter
I think people should wear exactly what they want to wear but I do adjust what I wear bearing my age in mind. I wouldn't wear a mini skirt out without opaque tights or leggings because *I* don't like how my legs look in them but for reasons that I can't explain I am perfectly happy in short shorts. People frequently comment on my clothes because they are often not what they expect a woman of my age to wear. They rarely comment negatively...to my face and if they did I'd laugh and ignore them.
I've said this before the only thing women (and men) over a certain age shouldn't wear is the weight of other people's expectations. |

I think you don't realise until you are old that you're exactly the same inside as you always were, maybe a little wiser. It's just the outside that radically changes, so if you like a certain way of dressing you always will

Not really,women wear jeans, joggers, tee shirts etc as standard. The only difference I can see is they're "allowed" to wear dresses and heels! |

Everyone should wear what they want of course but for me personally I wouldn’t. I think there’ll come a time in the not too distant future where the long blonde hair will have to go. I think it looks awful on old women (personal opinion I might add). Same with clothes. It just doesn’t look nice to me. |

I don't take much notice what people wear in supermarket car parks, but maybe I should, could be very entertaining.
Women and men can wear what they want in a public place provided it's within the law. Wear what you're comfortable in and what makes you feel good is my motto, and not to please other people.

I get what your saying though. Menfolk are often still expected to dress down a bit.
You'll often see me dressed quite conservatively in Harris t jacket and flat cap. I do have to compliment the look with a leopard print cravat though, just to make sure people don't get the "wrong idea" about me! |

No, no. I completely agree. I'm not sure how this came across as a negative post. I wrote that i thought she looked great.
I believe people should be free to dress however they choose and i certainly don't subscribe to the age appropriate notion. I'm just quoting what i've been told on numerous occasions (and always by women) and asking for opinions. Nothing more. |

Not yet. You still have lots of time with the hair! . I’ve never worn a baseball cap ever so I won’t have to give that up . The mini skirts are gone for me though unless I’m on holiday. Anything goes on holiday!"
I'll be honest I will probably have long hair until I'm 99, I might tone the colour down a bit and go for a couple of foils in with the white or just go completely white. My concession will be to wear it up in a chignon or loose bun.
I do wear baseball caps, I wear all sorts of hats, I don't wear mini skirts, I wear bikinis. I do have a wobble now and again with certain things and this year I put a couple of dresses away that I just think "no" . |

I got a bit of piss taking when I wore a AC/DC Back in Black T-shirt at work not so long back. It appears I should dress appropriately for my age I think cords were mentioned
I do feel out of place in a younger person clothing shop, but that’s about it. As a guy I dress as an old rocker and probably will continue to do well into my old age.  |

I wear what I want, but finding what I want can be a nightmare in the morning, depending on how I feel. Guys my age try to slate me for what I wear, but they have been pregnant from 20+ years and get someone else to buy their clothes, usually in the middle asile at Aldi.

One of my besties is in her early 70s
She doesn’t look it, she always looks very glamorous, she has blonde shoulder length hair, she can wear anything and look great in it. She’s about a size 10 max

My look from my teens to my early 30’s was band tshirt, black jeans and converse. I tried the who age appropriate thing and just didn’t feel like me. So reverted back to what I like…. Band Tshirt, Black Jeans and converse!!
Who cares what people wear. If they’re happy then that’s all that counts!! |

I just don't understand this. If OP thought she looked good but also thought some people might find it inappropriate then why purposely try and invite those latter opinions?
Obviously most if not all poster on this thread have stated the wearer's age is irrelevant, but just seems odd to me. |

To answer your question, society decides what is or isn't sexual and it changes over time. Within that society there will be a range of opinions. For you, clearly legs aren't sexual but tits are, for others legs are just as sexual. Why is the line you draw any more special than that drawn by others?

I'm really struggling to understand either your initial response or this one of I'm honest.
For everyone else criticising the OP (who incidentally hasn't said a bad word about anyone) before you attack him, please consider if you've ever had a negative thought about someone else's appearance/dress sense. It is far easier to tell others they shouldn't judge what other people look like than it is to stop ourselves doing exactly that. And this includes backwards baseball caps.

Wear what you feel good in. That said if you're wearing the same stuff as you did 30 - 40 years ago then maybe get somebody's opinion. As you get older your body changes and some clothes just don't do you any favours anymore. Yes, do your own thing, but be open to change as well. And yes I do wear short skirts. |

There's an elderly, very eccentric lady in the next village, everyone recognises her as :-
She dresses very very brightly
Always has immaculately coiffed, cerise pink hair all the way down her back and usually carries a brollie too come rain or shine. Sadly - many are also vile to her. I've said this before on another thread I'm sure but I told her how wicked she looked and how she'd brightened my day once (her clothes are usually mismatched too but beautifully made and look expensive) she told me how folk were nasty and cried because I'd been nice. It's been interesting to highlight just how needlessly aggressive some people are. On a site replete with photographs of people dressed deliberately to provoke reaction and with endless threads of rate my arse / tits / legs... I have found over the years that it is mostly females who make derogatory comments about how other female dress. I remember a few years back at a wedding evening reception. There was a female dressed in quite revealing cloths . If I remember she was about fifty plus. The comments were from females near me . She is dressed like mutton trying to be lamb |

I've never been a dedicated follower of fashion and always worn what I think looks good on me. The only time I ever dressed in the current fashion was in the early 80s when I was a teenage Sonny Crockett and looking back now that wasn't appropriate in the Irish climate.
If I look in the mirror and like what I see I'll wear it. If I think I look like mutton dressed as lamb I won't wear it but that's my choice alone. |
