I hate washing rice too, never seem to get it running clear and when it dries you get that pool of white residue at the bottom of the sieve. Hate it when pasta boils over and you have to keep lifting the lid to prevent it. |

Ahem ......... so do I.
Tips for washing rice. Put it in a large pan of water and every time you walk past it swish it with a fork. Pour a bit of water away and put in clean water. I won't make a job of it. I make it easy.
Onion. Buy ready chopped for fresh. Or frozen for cooking.
Garlic......... nothing beats fresh garlic though I do have dried too for emergencies.
To peel garlic effortlessly ........ ( you can buy a silicone thing specially but I use my silicone oven mitt)
Garlic in.... roll back n forwards. Garlic peeled. It's like a magic garlic stripper.
OR ...... I cut off the little base on a clove. Put it in a plastic bag ( butty bag ) hit is fucking hard once with the rolling pin. Gently open bag. Peel is off.... garlic smashed. FAB...... |

I use Aldi easy cook rice. No washing involved. Add it to a pan of cold water (one cup of rice=two cups of water), put lid on, bring to the boil and simmer until all of the water is absorbed. Then fluff it up with a fork. It’s never clumpy or sticky |

You absolutely do. It's covered in starch and bacteria, not washing your rice is the equivalent of going outside and licking the pavement. |

Although the rice I do with my hands because that’s how I was taught. Probably why I hate it so much.

It's not washing the rice I detest. It's the way people wash sieve wash sieve ....... and the rice stays in the pan cos it's wet...... yak.
I do swish swish, one change of water, swish swish...... drain but not totally...
Rice is put on stove IN pan so that I don't exchange pans.
No extra pan ...... no sieve. Less washing up. |

Rinsing rice is only done to remove residual starch that is left over from the process of rice production.
Eating unwashed rice is fine .... just gooey ....
Sometimes I leave it unwashed for sticky rice. |

Big bags of rice can have cockroach larvae in, plus, anything can drop into it during packing.

Chances are then that you’re using too small a pan for the amount of water and pasta you’re cooking and maybe on too big a ring, and yeah, don’t cover the pan. |

Aye. There's a genus of bacteria called Bacillus that can give some horrible food poisoning. They can form very hardy spores that will germinate and form new bacteria as food cools. The bacteria secrete toxins and these aren't removed if reheated. Have a Google for "fried rice syndrome" |

Lady secretions are acidic, thanks to the presence of Lactobacilli bacteria, among other things. Gentleman's relish is approx pH 7-8 (so alkaline).

Lady jizz is acidic. Gentleman juice is alkaline
Well my jizz juice it is then!
Also is this true? I feel like this is a true statement because you're a wise woman.
Lady secretions are acidic, thanks to the presence of Lactobacilli bacteria, among other things. Gentleman's relish is approx pH 7-8 (so alkaline).

"I hate washing rice too, never seem to get it running clear and when it dries you get that pool of white residue at the bottom of the sieve. Hate it when pasta boils over and you have to keep lifting the lid to prevent it.
To be fair....... pasta is supposed to boil freely uncovered.
I hate when it boils over even when it’s free. I tried the wooden spoon but that doesn’t always work for some reason
If you rub jizz juice around the edge of the pan it will not boil over.

"99% black people wash their rice that's standard. None of my white friends do this is why I dont eat at their homes lol"
I do not know a Black person that doesn’t wash their rice tbf. A general tule of mine is not to eat at someone’s house until I’ve observed them at home and in their kitchen first. I usually even turn down drinks unless I’m desperate. |

Don't put a lid on and rest a wooden spoon across the top of the pan, it won't boil over then. |

I wash rice to rid it of starch if I want loose rice to go with Indian food and egg fried rice. Basmati or Patna rice is good for this. With Arborio rice, a quick rinse as the glutinous rice is good for proper risotto .
Fry onion lightly, add a cup of rice for two minutes, then add chopped celery and leeks for one minute, add stock. Bit by bit . Usually needs 800 ml. And simmer as rice absorbs and softens. When ready, add prawns and two tablespoons cream cheese with a little salt and pepper. Delicious.
If you have a bad tummy,or diarrhea make rice congee. I cup of rice and eight cups of water, simmer for one hour. Eat the sticky glutinous rice, add salt. Will settle tummy and stop diarrhea |

"I love washing up. It’s so therapeutic. I play music quietly and I just transport "
Ok that's a deal... I do all the cooking and you can do the washing up...
Rice... Buy good quality rice (Basmati or Jasmin) by the 10kg sacks. They work out just as cheap as regular 1kg supermarket bags. Then you don't need to wash. A quick rinse and I cook my rice in the microwave... Comes out perfectly cooked and just needs fluffing...
Garlic... I buy three bulbs at a time. I break up a bulb and put all the cloves into a glass jam jar, with a small beach pebble. Lid on and shake vigorously. The skin just comes off. Repeat with other two bulbs. I then whizz the whole lot in a hand blender and put into a tight fitting Tupperware. Lasts for months as garlic has a natural antibacterial juices which stop them from going mouldy.
Or buy frozen minced garlic or ginger blocks from Iceland Warehouse. |

Me too! It's such a time saver with four teens to feed. I keep a tube of garlic in the fridge and frozen onion in the freezer. |

"Rice is washed during the manufacturing and packing process. It doesn’t have to be washed. "
It's only washed by bigger companies to reduce the arsenic levels from the fields.

Obviously a number of reasons why to wash or not wash rice above but I find the best way to wash the starch out to make sure your rice isn’t sticky and get the water clear is to wash it in a large bowl.
Put your rice is a large bowl (not a small one) and then pour a good amount of hot water over it and stir (wooden spoon if very hot). The water will get cloudy so pour the water out and repeat. I’ll do this two or three times and you’ll see the water gets clearer.
My final wash in cold water and then you’re good to go. |
