Went with school football team to Belgium for a tournament. I was one month short of turning 12. One day was sight seeing so a sort of holiday. We all felt much older and grew up fast.

Never went abroad with parents. Large family so holidays were camping trips to south coast & West Country.

Married young & had a baby so no holiday until I was 28 - drove to South of France , it was fantastic. I have driven that route many times and I still get a thrill that you can drive from a northern climate to the Mediterranean.

Amazing how things have changed in just a generation or two - I never holidayed abroad, my kids have only ever holidayed abroad.

They have no idea of the suffering!
