Gareth Southgate is the manager of the England football team. He has said that picking his penalty players has an added layer of complexity because of the abuse suffered by black players who previously missed penalties for England. What has it come to when this happens. Very Very sad situation. |

Picks black players and they get abuse for missing. Bad manager!
Don’t pick black players to avoid abuse. Not picking black players. Racist manager!
Can’t get it right either way. If I was him I’d just assign everyone a number and throw a dice |

I think Gareth and the players should decide together, considering the outcomes, who takes pens. But I genuinely don’t think, especially given that Gareth has said his reasons here, that anyone would call it racist for not picking Black players. |

My take is, it’s not at all surprising. I don’t think he shouldn’t pick players if they want to be picked, that’s not his call to make, but I do think it’s something to consider. The consequences of suffering any form of racism is rarely considered for some reason. People think that racism sometimes isn’t that dee.
Its all exhausting. |

That’s a really weak message from Southgate, basically telling the racists that they have won. |

Or expressing that not getting behind the team has created more issues for the team.
It may make some of these idiots think about their consequences at least |

Pick the best players for the penalties based on their current fitness & skill. Skin colour is not applicable. If they miss & get abuse, then educate the fabs on how to express disappointment without racist language - doesn’t football have stamp out racism motto ? Or ban those fans. And get the players to develop thick skin and train them to kick better. |
