Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's a magical time, isn't it?

There's a treasure trove of glasses to be found scattered around the place, lights and TVs are left on in empty rooms, people have generously brought mud and grass in on their shoes, external doors are left open to enable the dog to go and freely explore the main road, and one is introduced to all sorts of new TV offerings, best enjoyed at a volume that would raise the dead.

Plus, they leave souvenirs behind (to be posted back to them like it's some sort of game).

Anyone else look forward to family visiting?

Oh, and the best part is that I'm contractually required to allow the Daily Mail into the house.

But it's so lovely when they finally take the hint and leave.

Sack your lawyers for agreeing to a contract with that clause

The weird thing is that these are either the people that brought me up NOT to do those things, or other recipients of precisely that training.

Maybe the biggest shock is that I was the only one paying attention.

There's a ceremonial burning when they've gone. I'm sure the "recycling crew" don't pay attention as they empty my various bins, but no fucking way am I risking it.

I don’t have family so don’t have those problems and if my guest behaved like that they would be out on their ear and never invited back

My dad read the Mail all his life.

I'm convinced it's what caused his dementia.

Sounds like my house for the past few days + friends visiting from abroad. Give it a few more days the only the good memories of it will remain.

That's saved for my ears, having had it read to me. It's yesterday's "news", spun through a massively bigoted filter, plus carefully selected letters from "readers" reacting to last WEEK'S news.

Don't get me started on guests and bathrooms! Our solution to the guest problem apart from being supremely unwelcoming was to move to a home that is mildly inconvenient for them to reach.

Tad extreme but I like your style. The remoteness served only to make mine even more attractive to visit.

For more than a few hours?

Unless they are bringing a swimsuit for the hottub they ain't staying long.

Or Dairy Milk.

Worthing

I do it in shifts...easier that way. In summer though can have everyone round as host outside.

I think our habit of completely ignoring guests, not feeding them and never changing the bedsheets is what swings it. Oh that and many of our family living in remote European locations and far East.

Yes there is that. When we have guests they tend to stay for weeks not days . We've even had fab members suggest we put them up for the weekend and show them round
