Apparently this is in London.
I do love a nice sip, but it's been a few years now since I've gone tea total, like 100% total. Alcohol, ciggs and fuel, the taxman takes so much, but now they threatening to hit sugary produce like soft drinks on the grounds of health and safety. I totally agree. However I think the taxman should give a relief on chocolates. We can totally live without soft drinks but chocolates is awkward situation. |

"I thought there had been a sugar tax for a while, which is why regular Coke etc are more expensive.
And I can absolutely live without chocolate "
I hadn't noticed softdrinks going up. But then again I don't drink it. Personally I think all soft drinks should be under the same category as alcohol and tobaccos, 'high risk to health'. Must be over 21 to purchase and heavily taxed. |

Even sugar free cordials and diet soft drinks ? |

"Tee total and just spent a few hundred quid on Whisky that you are considering drinking?
How bizarre!"
This is the first bottle (for special occasions) I've bought in years. Obviously you didn't really read the whole thread. Did you? Smarty pants. |

Apparently if they contain less than 1 tea spoon of sugar then it's tax free. The average can of pop has around 10 spoons. |

There was a big thing in the media when it happened. It wasn't a stealth thing. You don't have to drink soft drinks to know about it.
Soft drinks covers such a wide range of beverages that it would be ridiculous to put them in the same category as alcohol and tobacco.
As with everything, moderation is the key. |

"Eight quid a pint? That's £64 per gallon. Cheaper to drink diesel!
Disclaimer: the above is a joke. Don't try this at home, kids!
Diesel is popular in Germany. It is 50/50 lager and CocaCola"
Diesel is lager, cider and blackcurrant . . . |

Personally I think as an island country we should eventually become a tea total and soft drink total country in the near future. There are so much more badness than goodness in sugary drinks. It's a crime to see young children drink it. Rottend their teeth and weight. |

That makes no sense. Are you saying that we should ban soft drinks or just drink soft drinks?
If you ban alcohol and soft drinks you really don't have a great deal to drink... as "soft" in this case means non alcoholic. Thus a drink is either "soft" or "hard", no grey area.

I stopped drink tea(never been a coffee person) around 3 years ago. So yeah you're right we should try to make tea and coffee that is caffeine free. |

I always thought hot drinks were soft as well... unless you put booze in?
Maybe that's the grey area? |

In the west(developed countries) obesity is pandemic). Little children have totally rotten teeth(because of sugary drinks) and health issues. Dentists just can't believe it. But there's
nothing they can do as it's down to the parents. |

My four children aren't fat with rotten teeth. A bigger problem is children haven't been able to see a dentist for two years |

Have you ever known a child to be obesite due to eating fruit and vegetables? The little buggers won't eat healthy foods because they're given sweets and sugar. |

Ban kids.
Or jail parents who allow their kids to get fat.
Or put an age limit on anything that hasn't come straight from the ground
But not chocolate. That diesnt cause obesity or bad teeth. |

Went to a pub a month ago and was charged £4.10 for a pint of ! I was on the soft drinks as I was driving. Bloody crazy prices for something that the pub pays pennies for.
I understand the beer/cider increases as the whole industry has had a bad hit in the last 2 years. So many brewery's and pubs have closed and unfortunately their prices have had to go up to cover the increases in the production side of things. |

Yet you say the taxman should give relief on chocolate ?"
Chocolates are in a unique and different category. Surgery drinks is a crime against humanities health whereas chocolate is a sin but manageable. |

Well how else are WE going to discipline the parents? It starts there not with the children. |
