keyboard keys malfunctioning maybe, or doing it on phone , big fingers like.
i always go to my account and view my own profile to check spellings and update it.
not many do this as every profile i read starts "new to this " but theyve been here over a year. |

"Unfortunately bad grammar and lazy writing is one of my big pet hates. "
Why. Are you the grammar police.
Some people are unfortunately dyslexic me being one and rely on predictive txt to help them spell. Unfortunately this doesn't help with punctuation ect.

I am usually good with my grammar and spelling but some of my posts show lots of mistakes due to autocorrect and quick typing. I used to delete and resend as soon as I noticed. I am not really bothered now as long as it makes sense. I also appreciate not everyone is good with grammar and spelling for lots of reasons including dyslexia. I would never dream of commenting on that especially when usually you can tell what was meant to be. It does not make their post or comment less important at all. |

Meh if you understand what they mean is it really that important. Can be a myriad of reasons why they made an error. I often misspell things on here, dyslexia is some of the reason. The rest is due to not proof reading in fast moving threads. But I guess I'm lazy, c'est la vie |

I think that a lot of people use undiagnosed "dyslexia" as an excuse for not being able to spell. In reality, the mis-spellings of dyslexics usually follow specific patterns which are significantly different to those of people who just don't know the correct spelling.

If I misspelled Clacton to Clapton I would be in a very different area. Saying that, I regularly forget to proof read my posts so they're often littered with mistakes

I spelt my name wrong regularly until I was a teenager. Dyslexia is a difficult thing to understand if you don't have it. I'm not offended by your question or opinion. Just surprised by people's need to pull others down. Spelling and grammar doesn't define intelligence |

Why does that matter? What impact does it make on anyone else if someone does that? If you don't like people who misspell words - block their profiles. Don't shag them - that will show 'em! |

Too busy wanking, in anticipation of the clunge avalanche heading their way?
I make tons of spelling mistakes, often not seeing them due to tired eyes, a small screen and dependancy on autocorrect not being autosabotage.
I think many put an alternative to their real home town too, to provide some anonymity or to prevent rows at home |

No not directly agreed. But "I simply find it bizarre. It is one step away from getting your name wrong" why is spelling your own name one step away? It's clearly not a positive remark is it? |

And is there a problem with a potentially negative remark? I’m sure you wouldn’t suggest people refrain from expressing some possible negativity about a trait. |

Agreed you are entitled to your opinion, absolutely. So I’ll ask a question to see if we can find something to genuinely debate on. What is it you hope to achieve by pulling someone up over their possible displeasure of someone’s spelling of their place name? |

The understanding on why is it important? Did it make their conversation that much more difficult? If they experienced such displeasure why? What did they hope to gain in starting a thread on the subject? Why do people get wound up on something some of us cannot help?
All these are questions unfortunately you cannot answer.

The place I grew up in was spelled in a particular way but the local council removed a letter on roadsigns because it wasn't pronounced the way it was spelt.
That caused a lot of confusion because strangers then thought they were two different places.
There was a lot of residential development in the area and the official addresses were spelt incorrectly but were never changed and have stuck with anyone who has just moved to the area in the last 20 years.
So exactly the same place but spelled 3 different ways depending on what generation you are from or how long you've lived in the area. Who's right and who's wrong? |

"what does it matter if somebody cant spell to good, its all about the person for me"
It matters to some Dave as some have a dislike for what may be perceived as laziness or oafishness. Of course such things as dyslexia need to be taken into account as well as speedy typing and auto correct. If someone appears illiterate, it can put people off. However, there are plenty of people tolerant of poor spelling so those people don’t miss out. Horses for courses I suppose. |

"i have to question the person it bothers because i just dont get it,,,"
We won’t always understand each other’s tics and irritations, it leaves room for mystery and discussion. What is important to one person is an irrelevance to another. I understand your stance on spelling not being of importance in relation to an individual’s soul, personality, character, etc. |

"what does it matter if somebody cant spell to good, its all about the person for me"
It matters not even though we all know good communication is important at times. Is all about perspective - after-all, this is a community site for meeting and mingling with like minded people for fun, and not a Mastermind competition.
Bad grammar/spelling are trivialities, knowing a message can still be deciphered should there be reason for arranging to meet-up. Sometimes, it seems we are all overly critical and quick to make decisions without actually getting to know a person.
Also, it’s been known that Nobel Prize winners to the authors of great literary works, have been known to have an inability to spell correctly plaguing some of history's most influential people. Fortunately, they have editors who out alphabetical mishaps.
So you see it’s not all bad and you’re 100% correct in believing it doesn’t define a person. |
